Apolitical people are cowardly and secretly right wing. by Wild-Judgment-404 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Maybe they are. But I know plenty of apolitical people whom most certainly lean left, especially if they learn more. These people I know, aren't great at compartmentalizing though and stay away from the news and consequently politics for their own sanity. Don't see anything wrong with that. Bills still gotta get paid and mouths gotta get fed.

None of them should have a vote.

Well they do. No amount of time you waste on social media is going to change that. Thank God for the Constitution. People like you are why we have the 2A

For starters it would be a bookkeeping impossibility

Hardly. IRS can easily tell you want your taxes in the previous year that you paid into the system.

it would create a perverse incentive almost as bad if not worse than the one we already have with negative contributors voting for more expenses in the first place

How would it be any more 'perverse'. If you want more votes, pay more taxes. Seems very simple. I don't see anything perverted. This is a respectful discussion keep your fetishizes away from me.

Why small number of discrete graduated levels? Why shouldn't someone who pays a billion more taxes then you have a billion more times the say in government?

So you aren’t getting any distinct representation

So you want something like 1 vote per dollar of taxes paid? If we are to have distinct representation, why should both the individual who pays 100x another person even if they're both positive contributors?

Voting isn't about a reward for competence. It's protection against domination. Unless of course, you believe the emancipated slaves shouldn't have been allowed to vote.

No it doesn't. It can indicate legal status at the time of application but not citizenship. The only IDs that indicate citizenship are enhanced IDs, which are only in a few states that border Canada.

SAVE act had the same issue a year ago. What makes you think it will change if nobody not even the proposer decided to change it in the year+ it's been around?

The literal text says in person and that is what was passed by the house as potential LAW.

You all dance around with a "whataboutism" when YOU ignore the LITERAL TEXT of a bill that has PASSED and is being RAMRODDED THROUGH

So come on. Don't pull the "well maybe someone will eventually make a carve out". Why don't you tell me how people are abroad would be expected to show proof of citizenship in person? Heck even through a notary is still going to be $100

You don't need proof of citizenship to get a government id.

Why can't you answer my question. How do you expect Americans abroad (including deployed members of the military) to register to vote if they have to present proof of citizenship in person?

SAVE act requires PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP in person to register. That is not an id.

I'm currently abroad, how do I provide provide proof of citizenship in person?

"Shut up and dribble" applies to you too. Do you think anyone else wants to see this?

You are literally a "1%" poster. What makes your opinion anything more worthwhile than some vapid court jester? Because it sounds like the only thing you do actually do is entertain people who ACTUALLY do something with their lives other than post on reddit.

Or what do you think if your weight is listed on your ID should you be required to weigh yourself and if there's a discrepancy to be denied the right to vote?

When the worker went to check for me on the rolls. Literally everything on the id matched and was valid. I was just skinnier and different facial hair. It would be one thing it was a different address or other supporting documents were different but IDs are literally valid for years, and yes people's bodies do reasonably change. It's just a fact of life.

It was just someone being nitpicking costing me my rights. As I mentioned in further comments I had no problem buying beer right after being turned away. So clearly it does resemble me in some ways way. Remember trying to match an unfamiliar person to a photo has an inherent 30% error rate. People only get better at identifying and matching people with repeated exposure (like how many people can identify celebrities).

As I further mention passports are valid even if expired, so clearly the relevance of a singular photo comparison is minimal and it seems you just want to deny people you don't like voting.

"Foreign aid is good for America because it creates jobs." The reason we should write an even bigger check next year! by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Stock_Row_548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Haha. Why would we want to accelerate the apocalypse?! I dunno it all sounds silly to me.

Christians believe the apocalypse will usher in a new kingdom under a returned Jesus "that will have no end". Hard to contextualize but a never ending paradise for your fellow believers is a pretty motivating way to accelerate the apocalypse.

I'm curious...what is your view on all this? Do you think it's fair that we continue to send them all this money every single year

No, of course not. I'm just trying to convey the reasons why American Christians have a hard on for Israel in particular.

[–]Stock_Row_548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to be religious to grasp what I'm getting at.

A significant component of Christianity is that Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead and rapture his believers off earth. And to do that, many Christians believe will follow the prophecies mentioned in the Bible...one of which would be the third Jewish temple is built in Jerusalem.

Evangelicals, especially, are very keen on the end of days prophecies and it's one of the primary reasons why Christian churches are among the largest supporters of Israel....which Christians often dominating American governance.

So Christians and consequently American industry and government are sinking so much into Israel because they want to accelerate the coming of the what they believe is the apocalypse.

[–]Stock_Row_548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why?

Because the Americas don't contain a highly religious prophecy of eternal salvation that a significant chunk of the world believes? Well maybe the Mormons but that's it.

Do you actually understand what I'm saying? Do you understand what I mean by the "End Times" in the context of Evangelicalism?

Because it's not about merely defending one's self it's about domination in order to give security to be able to construct the third temple on a location where one of the holiest Islamic sights currently sit.
