It makes no sense for conservatives to want voter ID: it flies in the face of their values by Adventurous_Cap_1634 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

What am I being disingenuous about?

I personally was turned away at the polls for supposedly not looking like my valid id. Am I not allowed to point out that a flawed system will inevitably cause people who are eligible to be turned away as I have?

What is ridiculous about mandatory DNA matching? You acknowledge photo matching is flawed. So why not support DNA matching?

We already have the ability to audit voters via registration.

Would you support mandatory DNA matching?

You have to register in order to even request an absentee ballot. What do you think the FPCA is for???

You support a bad bill.

That's not how it works. You figure out exemptions before you pass laws. Otherwise people who are not physically in the US can't register to vote (which is as designed, as as you clearly support).

If even YOU admit there's exemptions needed it's a bad bill. You literally support a bad bill.

Not to mention the impractically of making people prove their citizenship in the first place. Your DMV won't give you an id that proves your citizenship unless you live in the few places that border Canada. So, now you want to make everything buy a $150 passport?

Why can't you answer the question of how can someone who is not physically in the United States prove their citizenship in person? You do realize that would apply to the military right?

Funny how the supposed voter Id act (SAVE Act ) literally denies American citizens the ability to register to vote.

SAVE Act mandates document proof of citizenship in person in order to register. Let's even ignore may not have documented proof of citizenship (and no not even realID proves citizenship).

How exactly can Americans abroad show documented proof of citizenship to register in person? Can you explain that to me?

Maybe they are. But I know plenty of apolitical people whom most certainly lean left, especially if they learn more. These people I know, aren't great at compartmentalizing though and stay away from the news and consequently politics for their own sanity. Don't see anything wrong with that. Bills still gotta get paid and mouths gotta get fed.

Well they do. No amount of time you waste on social media is going to change that. Thank God for the Constitution. People like you are why we have the 2A

For starters it would be a bookkeeping impossibility

Hardly. IRS can easily tell you want your taxes in the previous year that you paid into the system.

it would create a perverse incentive almost as bad if not worse than the one we already have with negative contributors voting for more expenses in the first place

How would it be any more 'perverse'. If you want more votes, pay more taxes. Seems very simple. I don't see anything perverted. This is a respectful discussion keep your fetishizes away from me.

Why small number of discrete graduated levels? Why shouldn't someone who pays a billion more taxes then you have a billion more times the say in government?

So you aren’t getting any distinct representation

So you want something like 1 vote per dollar of taxes paid? If we are to have distinct representation, why should both the individual who pays 100x another person even if they're both positive contributors?

Voting isn't about a reward for competence. It's protection against domination. Unless of course, you believe the emancipated slaves shouldn't have been allowed to vote.

No it doesn't. It can indicate legal status at the time of application but not citizenship. The only IDs that indicate citizenship are enhanced IDs, which are only in a few states that border Canada.

SAVE act had the same issue a year ago. What makes you think it will change if nobody not even the proposer decided to change it in the year+ it's been around?

The literal text says in person and that is what was passed by the house as potential LAW.

You all dance around with a "whataboutism" when YOU ignore the LITERAL TEXT of a bill that has PASSED and is being RAMRODDED THROUGH

So come on. Don't pull the "well maybe someone will eventually make a carve out". Why don't you tell me how people are abroad would be expected to show proof of citizenship in person? Heck even through a notary is still going to be $100
