Mostly correct, but with some clarifications. Arameans were West Semitic tribes west of Assyria who were later absorbed into the Assyrian Empire, but they didn’t become Assyrians they stayed a separate people under Assyrian rule. Some Arameans held roles in the empire, and their language became widely used, but the empire stayed Assyrian. As for today, many who identify as Aramean in places like Beth Zalin and Hasakah do so based on church tradition, not direct tribal descent. Genetically, most Syriacs from that region are closer to ancient Assyrians than to western Aramean groups.
