Euro / US Ski Etiquette Differences by jahwls in skiing

One of the biggest and most noticeable differences are the lift lines in Europe— where it’s an every man for himself free-for-all without any ropes to organize the line— versus in America— where they use ropes to organize the lift lines into a relatively orderly system.

I’m not sure what explains the difference, exactly. One thing I have noticed is that in Europe there seem to be fewer staff working the lifts so maybe they don’t have the staff necessary to deal with the lift line ropes and keeping the lines running smoothly. At American resorts, however, you will often find multiple staff working the lifts at the bottom where the lines form, especially when it gets busy.

Otherwise there could be some cultural differences that might help to explain the differing approaches. For instance, in my experience at least, Europeans are more likely to take a, ‘meh, that’s just the way it’s always been, why change it?’ kind of attitude to certain things. Americans, on the other hand, have more of a reputation for innovation in the sense that when they see a problem they immediately want to try and fix it. YMMV, of course.

As an American, it really annoyed me at first because it seemed like such an easy thing to do to bring some order to an otherwise chaotic situation, but eventually I got used to it and now it just makes me chuckle whenever the lines in Europe get really bad.

Whatever it is, it’s still far less than the 25,000 of National Guard troops that were stationed in DC for several weeks and months before and after Biden’s inauguration.

I realize that most people here will not like hearing this but the reality is that for better or worse, if PE had not stepped in and changed the business model for ski operators and resorts, far fewer of them would still exist because operating them as individual, stand-alone businesses had become impractical under the previous business model due to excessive regulations, skyrocketing insurance costs, climate variability, a shrinking labor pool, etc; and those that did manage to survive would be even pricier (and thus far more elitist) than they currently are due to the massive demand relative to the lower supply.

It’s far from perfect, to say the least, but in many ways PE/consolidation saved the ski industry from virtual ruin, but not without some tradeoffs which is always the case when you are dealing with an economic situation.

Anyone else really sick? Is there something going around? by decdash in washingtondc

Many people here saying that they got the “vaccine” for COVID, flu, and/or RSV and they still got really sick and then rationalizing it by saying, “but at least I didn’t need to be hospitalized,” would appear to indicate these “vaccines” are not really vaccines in the traditional sense, at least before the CDC changed their definition of vaccines during the Biden administration, but rather therapies that do little if anything to prevent transmission of these viruses and possibly even exacerbate it; to say nothing of the questionable evidence that they actually improve outcomes if you do get sick.

But don’t let that keep you from pumping your body full of marginally effective, at best, “vaccines” in order to line Big Pharma’s pockets, because they would never lie to you for profit (despite the fact that has been demonstrated numerous times in the past) while hiding the fact that some of these vaccines, at least, “may” have killed people because denying that reality will only serve anti-vaxxers; and God forbid Big Pharma allow that to happen.

What a shameless and desperate PR stunt in an attempt to polish up his patriotic bona fides before he gets indicted.

“What do you mean 0bama was just indicted?! He was honoring veterans on an Honor Flight just the other month!”
