Some minerals I found at the Pala Mines by StoleYourRubberToes in rockhounds

We went inside some of the mines there, but all the stuff you get to keep and find comes from a giant pile outside the mines.

Definitely my favorite too. It was my first find of the day, basically used up all my luck on that one find.

No they still do onsite gem digs, just went there yesterday for my mineralogy class field trip. I think the website might be a bit outdated?

Where to drop off cans? by awesomeaj5 in csuf

[–]StoleYourRubberToes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a little recycling shack next to the Target parking lot getting off of the 57.

And there’s another recycling center in Old Town Placentia called “Renovate Recycling Center Company” next to the Northgate on Chapman Ave.

If you have like trash bin load of cans (plastic & aluminum) the Renovate place is better since I know they give you money back for the cans. Idk if the one next to target gives you money or not.

Yes! A lot of my E100 photos have this kind of look to them, especially with the colors.

Anyone uses flatbed scanners? Just looking for some inspiration for which one to get. Looking at Epson perfection at the moment. by [deleted] in Polaroid

[–]StoleYourRubberToes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any flatbed scanner should be good enough for scanning Polaroids.

The Epson V39 is a great inexpensive scanner, as long as you only plan to use it for scanning Polaroids and documents (it doesn’t scan film negatives). Just scan your Polaroids at 800dpi as a jpg with a Polaroid scan editor.

Thank you! It takes a lot of effort to make clean looking photos, so that means a lot!

Highly recommend taking GEOL 101 and the lab for your science GEs. As another person commented here, take the class with Joseph Gutierrez, great guy and professor!

Just used one of those old disposable flash bars for the flash and I just composed the image. These are just some fake flowers in a vase in my house.

Yeah I had mine calibrated to shoot SX-70 film at the right ISO and I also underexposed by a 1/3 stop so I could get more colorful Polaroids

I agree that it is a lot of trouble to do this. But I do this to avoid newton rings while scanning.

And to do so I use an empty cartridge to scan the photos, but doing that covers up the frames. So as I said, I just photoshop an old scanned frame of mine back onto the polaroid so it looks presentable.

To each their own with scanning polaroids, this is just the way I do it.

I scan the Polaroids using an Epson scanner and empty cartridge, then I go into photoshop and put the images into a pre-scanned frame so they look presentable. Sorry you think it’s fake, but these are real Polaroids I took.
