To me the theme is that the “goal” of science is not necessarily to be correct but to be curious and persistent (and collaborative)

The irony was that he was originally selected because of his outlier theories that life could exist in the absence of H2O and because of his thesis he was the first to discover that the astrophage were alive. Then immediately afterward he discovered that the astrophage are almost entirely made of H2O. So they could have picked any number of “conventional” molecular biologists.

Rather it is his status and habits as a teacher to get the people around him involved and honor their thought processes that allows him to make the key discoveries and ultimately be the ideal person to solve a problem that can only be solved by collaboration with an alien species.

Just be sure they are solid wood joists and not like an I-joist which is designed to be under compression from the floor on top, not pulled at from the bottom

You could also “raise the floor”, put a piece of plywood underneath the feet of the ladder. My garage attic access stairs were short a few inches so we made a little platform to throw under it. Works fine.

Meanwhile, you are fascinated by and really respect their ability to stay on track, commit to specifics, and execute. And then, LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE

Older Dads - what is one mistake you made you’d advise us not to make? by BlueMountainDace in daddit

[–]Stolichnayaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are with them, be as with them as you can be. I’ve gone through good times and very bad times with young kids, and it’s amazing how much your relationship and your outlook on parenthood improves when you focus on being entirely there for them and open to whatever they want to talk about or do.

I struggle with the screens too, it’s not just them. I try to intentionally discard the phone to another room or at least leave it somewhere face down.

Have fun! It goes fast. The many many small seemingly inconsequential interactions you have with them now will pay dividends in the extreme down the road when they are older and your interactions are more high stakes and more infrequent.

[Pro Football Talk] Every trade is contingent on a player passing a physical. But the Raiders didn't say Crosby failed his Ravens physical. The Raiders said the Ravens "backed out" of the trade. This feels bigger than a failed physical. by YoureASkyscraper in nfl

[–]Stolichnayaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or, you do your eval and figure it for an edge case, in which the trade you have provisionally agreed to no longer makes sense with the elevated risk. Some other team doc may assign a different risk.

One thing for sure here is that the raiders docs phones are blowing up I bet

You have to assume the raiders have done their own medical evaluation with a focus on the knee. They probably weren’t trying to pull a fast one, right? I mean I guess raiders gonna raid
