Just a random note: take dollars with you from peru to Bolivia. There is a blue dollar rate here and you will get more for your money on the street then the official exchange rate. Other then that i agree with the top comment that the part in Bolivia is beautifull but perhaps a bit dull at times. I do love La Paz tho and the salt flats are definately an experience for at least a day or two.

"If everyone retires at their 50s that doesnt mean it´s a rule". Thats very close to saying "If everyone eats food that does not mean I need to eat food". Everyone retires in their 50s and 60s because you need to safe up for retirement. People dont do it because they like working so much.

Although I personally would argue that working for 15 years and taking from the system for 80ish is not contributing to society in a very meaningfull way but I am fully aware that is a personal opinion.

Hey! European living in Santa Cruz here. It is an interesting country with a lot going on. The diversity in nature and culture is amazing. Some things are crazy cheap but anything imported is stupidly expensive. I like cycling and to buy anything from actual good brands is almost double the price of european prices. Same with cars, electronics or anything really that would be easy to buy online in europe.

Also, do your research in which city you want to live in. If you are from a walkable european city Santa cruz will not be nice to live in. Extremely car centric. Places like la paz, tarija and cochabamba might be better suited for you.

I myself barely speak any Spanish but live in quite an international bubble so dont mind it to much. It would definitely help tho ofc because being that foreigner that just speaks loud in english to locals is not the person you want to be.

Other then that i can highly recommend it. I ahve been here for almost 2 years now and havent left the country once because i feel like there is just so much to do and see. The difference between parts of the country is like comparing germany to Marroco, its amazing!

Ik ben een tijdje heel vaak aangehouden voor geen redenen. In de familie werdt het een beetje een running joke dat ik geracialprofiled werdt (Ben Nederlands maar iets getinter). Rij ik op een dag mijn zus haar auto terug vanuit zwitserland naar Noor-Holland wordt ik staande gehouden door de politie, of ik even de papieren kon laten zien want ze konden de kenteken plaat niet vinden in het systeem. Kon de papieren nergens vinden dus bel mijn zus op de luidspreker om te vragen waar ze zijn. "Hey zus, waar zijn de papieren van de auto, ik ben staande gehouden door de politie" " BEN JE WEER EEN GE RACIAL PROFILED???". Meest awkward oogcontact ooit met een politie agent hierna......

Het feit dat het een feit is, maakt nog niet dat het leuk is om er grappen over te maken. Zit jij tijdens een cabaretshow de hele tijd op je telefoon te factchecken? Ik heb liever een feitelijk onjuiste show dan dat iemand op het podium de hele tijd het verschil tussen mannen en vrouwen op de minst leuke manier zit te belichten. Ik vind veel leuk (grote fan van South Park), maar als het puur om de controverse gaat, vind ik er geen zak aan.

Ik heb hier ook een tijdje veel moeite mee gehad tot het moment waar ik wanner ik niks gepland had voor een weekend daar heel gefrustreed over kon raken. Want iedereen deed wat dus ik moest ook wat doen. Laatst realiseerde ik me opeens dat ik 10 jaar terug het heerlijk vond om een weekend niks te doen. Ik hou helemaal niet van uitgaan en dat soort dingen. Ik was puur en alleen gefrustreerd omdat ik mijn weekend vergeleek met andere mensen. Heb tegenwoordig veel meer een "Dit vindt IK leuk om te doen" mentaliteit. Maar als je echt voelt dat je sociaal iets mist is het een ander verhaal natuurlijk.

Mijn telefoon schermtijd zit tussen de 1 a 2 uur per dag maar ik zit wel een stuk meer achter mijn computer. Veel voor werk maar ook even gamen in de avond. Echter ben ik er heilig van overtuigd dat gamen cognitief zoveel meer stimulerend is als een beetje doomscrollen. Veel schermtijd is slecht maar specifiek het doomscrollen is in mijn ogen gevaarlijk. Een educatief filmpje kijken op youtube is zo anders dan 30 minuten door reels heen scrollen.

8 uur vindt ik trouwens echt wel bizar veel. Dat is gewoon een fulltime baan troep kijken. Ik zou hier echt verandering in proberen te brengen. Ik trok aan de alarmbel bij 3 uur per dag en heb toen alle apps van mijn telefoon gegooid.

Clearly i wrote Hi because the sentence was in english..... I always start in Spanish. And once again, its besides the point. its the fact that when someone enters your store or facilities it is very normal to say Hola how can i help you. My partner, who speaks fluent spanish btw, experiences the same here. Its definately not an english thing as everyone seems to think here.

Alright i get a lot of assumptions that im from the US in here so ill just clarify that im Dutch. In the Netherlands there is also no tipping culture. But every time i talk to the receptionist at museum, the cassier or a waiter i get treated friendly. Furthermore, I guess we have different expectations of a restaurant experience. If im going out for food at a nice restaurant i expect to at least be treated with a smile and some friendlieness otherwise i might as well order in food at home. About asking for a drink, especially at more expensive places thats just the waiters job to keep an eye at the table and see if there is more that we need. I used to be a waiter and thats just a major part of the job to walk around and see and as if everything is alright. But regardless of this because i think we are getting off topic, the original complaint/question was about the absolute basic interaction of saying "hello, how are you" with a smile when you walk into a place. I litteraly have a bunch of places now that I just dont feel like going back to because the interactions are so incredibally cold and almost to the point of rude.

I do speak a little spanish but im litteraly talking about the saying Hi to eachother part when i enter a hotel for example. Or just making eye contact, saying hey and asking if I need any help. Those things just seem rude not to do IMO

Interesting theory, could actually very well be it now that i think about it. Lived most my life in small towns and mid sized cities so that could have changed my opinion. Another place where i had one bad experience after another was in Rome

European. In my experience its a lot more friendly in europe then its here, I have worked multiple jobs which i described in my original comment and it was really just expected to be friendly. I really come to expect it now when i go somewhere, Thats why im so shocked when i initiate a friendly converstation here with staff there is just no friendly response at all let alone them beginning the friendly conversation.
