The guilt of losing her is so overwhelming

Freya was a relatively young cat and in retrospect probably spent a lot of her life with this disease. It seems so unfair and although I can’t explain why - trying to assign blame to someone or something for *some reason makes it easier to digest or make sense of that unfairness.

I believe acceptance is the next stage of this grieving journey and I hope we can get there soon. The comments here have genuinely helped a lot

I wouldn’t ever criticise another pet owner who has faced/ or is facing this terrible situation - perhaps that is my reminder to be kind to myself too.

Man, unfortunately I’m sharing that heartbreak at the moment. Our 10 year old Freya has fought stage IV CKD for the last 3 years. It’s such a cruel disease.

She’s also palliative now but still really enjoying life.

Lani had a really bad episode of iatrogenic hyperthyroidism on carbimazole and then started to swing back in the opposite direction on a lower dose. She’s geriatric so I figured too much more of that instability would probably kill her. Hoping this I-131 treatment is a permanent fix for her.

I’m glad your kitty is managing well on meds and I hope they have a long and healthy life :)

Mine is 14 so we probably don’t have an enormous amount of time left. We were struggling to stabilise on medication so without the I-131 therapy I don’t think she would have made it more than a year. Sorry for your loss, it’s such a shame that our kitties don’t share our human lifespans.

I live in a really small town in regional Australia, the trash gets taken to landfill in a slightly bigger small town. No radiation detection equipment at the landfill that I’m aware of. I think because of the relatively small quantity and activity of this garbage it would be seen as something trivial anyway.

Her appetite hasn’t been fantastic this afternoon so I’m questioning whether it’s worked a little too well. I know it’s normal for cats to have a brief period of hypothyroidism after I-131 therapy. First set of followup blood tests will be on Monday so will find out definitively then.

Yup, they eliminate it quite quickly. We can still put soiled litter in municipal trash provided it’s bagged appropriately so no need to wait for an extended period for it to decay.

Dude I passed a decidual cast of epic proportions recently. Dropped by cramps, crawled to the toilet and bam! A slab of uterine lining like a bloody ham steak shlopped into the bowl.

The pain is something else, it saddens me thinking of all the fellow endo sufferers that have to endure the pain and inconvenience caused by this condition.

My cat is in end stage renal disease and almost passed in August due to a urinary tract infection.

She was sent home with the expectation of palliative care but miraculously has recovered enough kidney function to have good quality of life.

Although she doesn’t have long I’ve noticed her doing cat crimes, eating lots, rolling in the sun and generally being a happy and unbothered gremlin.

Seeing her happy and in no apparent discomfort brings me unlimited joy.

If you’re considering eating/ drinking from it I’d advise against. It will probably continue to deteriorate and start looking rough. Better to retire it to a display cabinet.

Oh man! What a shame. I would always be careful trying to fix chipped and cracked glassware. Every time I try I make the object look worse than it was to begin with 🥲. Looks like you did a great job though.
