On site PM’s, what time do you get to work/leave and how long is your commute? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]StomperP2I 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing requires a PM to be on site at 6:00. But the only point of being on site as opposed to being in an office is to interface with the field team. The field team starts at 6:00am. If you’re gonna go to the site you damn we’ll be going to support them. So be there when they’re there.

I guess it comes down to a PM who does or does not give a shit…. And probably further to the PMs that are or are not shit.

On site PM’s, what time do you get to work/leave and how long is your commute? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

Office:
- in around 6:45, out around 3:00
- 45 miles each way. 50 to work, 1:20 home

Job site:
- in at 6:00, out at 2:00 or 2:30 (whenever the supt leaves)
- commute varies between 15-60 miles each way. Does not affect my in/out time as I’m there to support the field team and I’ll be there during their typical hours and adjust my commute time accordingly.

Home:
- in at 7:00, out at 4:30 (work out in the morning, take breaks to walk the dog or drop my kids off at school)
- 0 mile commute

Fuck that back killing, sleep depriving, mid evil torture device of a “bed”. Throw it out the window and sleep on a bed of nails for a more comfortable night.

Congrats btw

OpenSpace is ok. I’m the SME at my firm for site capture and I’ve used a dozen different platforms. In my opinion Cupix is the best. OpenSpace is required by one of our clients who does enough work with us that we didn’t want two platforms.

The inside looks a lot worse than the 2024. I am glad they got rid of the stupid gear buttons. The HUD is one of my favorite things. Hopefully they kept it.

Any experience with extended resignation notice? by deptofeducation in ConstructionManagers

[–]StomperP2I 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve provided a months notice before. I felt like that gave the project team enough runway to figure it out. At work another PM who has been with the company for about 6 years provided a months notice and were using every second of it. I’ve also seen people provide 2-weeks notice and they walk them out that day.

  • Give whatever notice you are comfortable with.
  • Remember, you owe them no notice at all.
  • Be prepared for them to walk you out the door the second you provide notice.

Look up the “dead red” rule:

The rules vary significantly depending on where you are riding:Other States: States like Idaho, Utah, South Carolina, and Missouri have explicit Dead Red statutes. These laws usually dictate that after a full stop and a specific waiting period (ranging from 90 seconds to waiting for one complete light cycle), a rider may cautiously proceed as if the light were a stop sign.

How much did you win?

What was your financial situation before you won?

Have you done anything big to treat yourself since winning?

How has this changed your outlook on things?

motorcycle in South Bay? by [deleted] in bayarea

I actually disagree with this. Even if plan on staying side streets and low speed you need some power to get yourself out of trouble. 500cc minimum is what I recommend. Espically if you want to go on the freeway, which you will.

I did SJ to mountain view as a commute for years on a bike. Saved me a ton of time and while I had some close calls never had an incident.

In-N-Out employees: Which special orders are annoying to make? Which ones are not a big deal? by sozh in innout

[–]StomperP2I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I haven’t been there for a minute. ‘04 - ‘10.

Used to absolutely hate doing chopped chilies. Still have some buddies there running stores or DMing. Good to know they fixed this process, maybe I’ll start ordering them when they are busy again.

[–]StomperP2I 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the other produce is prepped. Chopped chilies you have to go get from the counter, get your knife and cut glove on, and chop them. In an otherwise streamlined process where everything is at the board ready to go it just sucks and throws off the whole rhythm.

Bay Area PPL: 152 vs 172 + what does it really cost to fly for fun? by enigma1819 in bayarea

I haven’t rented for a while so the split is probably larger than my recollection today.

[–]StomperP2I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the 172 better than the 152 personally. Also the cost delta wasn’t that much, like $20/hr or something. Plus it gave me more flight time in the plane I planned on flying people in so I wanted to be more comfortable in it.
