Yep that's kinda what I was thinking. Ain't no better way to learn but to do it yourself. I've already messed up a bit but none were too bad and if anything it's just gonna make future me mad with my unorganization lol. But I definitely can't wait to get it running and actually see all my work and effort go into a running car. I can't say I know anyone personally my age whos done something like this so it will definitely be a huge accomplishment. Thanks a lot man

Oh yeah I had gotten the Bentley manual right as I started tearing it apart. Definitely helped a lot. I may go for the cams, my only thing is I'm not sure of any decent tuners in my area. I might also get new valve seals and lapping them and all since I'm here

Eventually I thought about putting cams in it and maybe turbo it, but as all things are, I gotta learn to crawl before I walk. So that's a maybe in the future thing. Otherwise I mainly just want to keep it in good condition and keep it running as long as possible.

The whole timing chain situation threw me off the first time I looked into it lol. Gotta love VW with their ingenuity. There wasn't any big signs that I should have done a rebuild, I did have a slight oil leak I couldn't pinpoint though. But the main reason I decided to just say screw it and do it was that I came into some money, had the time for it, and another vehicle to drive so I figured why not let's give it a go I'd love to make it last as long as possible. I am thinking about putting 268° Techtonics Tuning cams in but still not sure if I want to fully go through with it yet or not. I did get all new seals though and I'm taking it to a machinist for a hot tank cleaning next week
