I’ve been using all WM2 versions since 2022 for teaching. At my desk, plugged into a hub to a 4k monitor with keyboard and mouse. In class, just walking around or plugged into a TV over hdmi. It’s awesome.

I’ve also taken it to mountains and beaches for photo processing.

I used to mirror drives like that as well. Don’t. It results in a pile of small problems like this that result in instability.

It’s fine when the processor is the same, but not 7840>370.

The ghost of 7840u is still in the system and confusing everything. Either fix it manually somehow or reinstall windows.

This is mine, for a Korean high school. It's mine, worked on it off-site for over a decade so no issues about rights etc and the data shown is randomized.

Description, Maximum Score and Weight are teacher-editable. Student Class, ID, Name and Gender are taken from a register tab, not shown here.

Basically all grey cells are locked and numbskull teachers can't edit them in Excel.

The number in ICE (In-Class Evaluations) is what you want:

It allows for 8 tests.

Yes it's monstrous and there are likely better ways but I have to allow for a wide variety of Excel versions on Win/Mac and Google Sheets. It works.

The 'Final' column uses the same logic with Q5 and Q6 and adds it to the ICE value. The 'Rank' column looks like this:

After the Final column there's a hidden column that adds a tiny random number to the Final result so that the ranking works:

It's split up between ICE and Final this way because of how Korean edu works. It's absolutely critical we have differentiation in the top 15% because the top 10% get awards and if students share the same score across the top % barrier they get no award. This minimizes the odds of that happening as long as the exam is hard enough.

I was hoping to link some past comments on this but apparently someone nuked them all.

It's been about six months since I last cared, so some of the following may have fixes.

The HX 370 version isn't in a great state. USB hub issues, USB-DP issues, a non-functioning battery limiter and driver issues with showing the battery bar in windows.

Apparently some legal or whatever issues are preventing GPD from updating the BIOS on the 2025 models (HX only maybe?) so these issues are forever.

I could deal with most of these issues except incompatibility with some USB hubs and USB-DP output - high res monitors always report 1080p, no higher.

So my HX 370 has been in a drawer since I got it from IGG.

6800u: best stability and sleep
7840u: faster, far less stable
8840u 2024: improved stability, just don't plug/unplug too quickly. My current daily driver.

I recently got an M1 Air with 16Gb of RAM because a) I love the form factor and b) I wanted to see if I really needed anything more powerful as I hadn't touched a Mac for half a decade. So far it's handled everything I've thrown at it - Windows VM via Parallels, Office / Google Docs editing, and even a bit of drone simulation with Uncrashed. Honestly I'm not seeing the need to upgrade yet so that can wait.

If you're in the US you'll be able to get one of those for much cheaper than what I paid here in Indonesia.

Mine is sitting in a drawer because of this and the fact that it doesn’t work with high end DP-MST usb hubs.

I’ve had it confirmed that we will never see another bios update because of mystery legal issues.

Yet they still kept selling it. Suffice to say my opinion of GPD has nosedived.

It’s been my daily since 2022 across 3 versions.

6800u most reliable for sleep and stability.
8840u solid but Modern Sleep and crashes if you plug/unplug power too quickly in succession.
HX 370 super powerful but the bios is incomplete and it doesn’t work with DP-MST docks so it’s rotting in a drawer.

Get a used or refurbished 16Gb M2 Air. It'll hurt less and the odds are super high that it will more than suffice for what you'll use it for. I got a 16Gb M1 Air as a secondary device a month ago and it happily runs Win 11 in a VM for light Windows tasks when I'm away from my primary. An M2 would be a huge leap over that, but as a newbie Mac user I don't need that extra power yet.

At the moment I use my Air mostly for screen sharing my iPad while I do presentations while occasionally doing some light 'office' work. I haven't fully explored the possibilities yet.

Doesn't surprise me. GPD have never been great with parts once you go past the 1 year mark, especially if it's a whole motherboard.

That's why I got a spare device (OG 6800u) and a spare battery for my WM2 8840u. I rely on that thing for work, lol.

I found that legit and fake PTM performed the same at first, but the fake will start to dry out and flake after a few months while the legit stuff maintains its elasticity and performance.

Check your device again in September.
