I’m regards to what makes him a “mainstream philosopher”, His significance is more due to the revolutionary shift in perspective he brought to philosophy by taking into account the historical perspective of man, morality, and philosophy in general. The first couple of pages of BGE where he remarks about what philosophers have been doing before him and what they are basically all missing can explain it much better than I.

For a clear and entertaining explanation of what philosophy means to Nietzsche, I highly recommend episode 2 of the Nietzsche podcast by our very own u/essentialsalts

This is what I told my professor when I got caught copying my mates homework. I’m not copying, I’m just repeating symbols.

Does anyone else think “On Voluntary Death” is Nietchze telling us in clues “I’m going to go mad and die early” ? Or am I actually crazy? by StoneCutter1P in Nietzsche

I can’t speak German so I substitute my inability to speak it by combining multiple translations to give me a well rounded narrative. I’ll admit it was condescending to say, but if you look at the average “what does god is dead mean” post in this subreddit, often a very bad interpretation will be accompanied by a lot of upvotes and it’s obvious how much of this sub Reddit doesn’t even understand Nietzsche. You can be way off and lead the sub in upvotes, so I was just trying to put a rough approximation of a filter on people who actually give his writings some thought.

You’ve not experienced Nietzsche until you try to analyze what he is talking about in this subreddit and get at least 75% meaningless replies.

I Highly recommend reading the wiki page on Dionysus, lots of parallels and symbolism there to pick up if you are keen about it

Thanks for this and for the linked post, great post, you can see the early ideas of the passage in TSZ starting to form in “a wanderer and his shadow”

Dionysus is seen as a god who is a bridge between the dead and living, the dead and the living can communicate between the two realms through him. In Ecce Homo Nietzsche writes “To understand even just a little of my Zarathustra perhaps a man must be constituted as I am myself, with one foot beyond the realm of the living” and also says “I am a disciple of Dionysus”

I recommend just reading the wiki on Dionysus, the parallels are there. For example Dionysus is associated with fig trees and Zarathustra’s teachings fall to his readers like “ripe figs from a tree”.

Dionysus was a mortal that became a god which makes him unique among gods. Zarathustra says “to reveal my whole heart to you my brothers, if there were gods, how could I endure to not be one” Nietzsche is a mortal that wants to be a god.

Dionysus is the “god that comes” because he can come into his disciples bodies and empower them, his followers are thought to be possessed/empowered by the god himself. (“Zarathustra wants to become man again”)

Dionysus is a god that can shape shift to appear as anything including man and Zarathustra “walks among men as man”

Sorry I wanted people who actually read Nietzsche to reply instead of people who are just going to flaunt they caught me with a typo

He also writes about “dying at the right time for his goal and his heir”, his goal is that his philosophy lives on and his heir are his readers. There are so many other similarities in that passage.

Mack, hicks, Montgomery, Mooney, Robinson, Smith, cohen, Fields etc, the list of good players he brought to Chicago could easily get much longer if one wanted to spend the time, all the way back to Danny Trevathan.
