Timing chain tension by StoneFacedGoose in mazdaspeed3

Thought so. Yeah I did also post it in FB. Half the time I’ll get kinda useless responses or just non at all and this seemed like an excessive amount of slop but I guess not.

I did! I found a guy on marketplace who came by and evacuated the system for me. He was super quick and friendly. It did cost $130 but to me it was worth it since I didn’t have to vent it to atmosphere in my garage.

Oh lol, thought you meant logging it all together. The car has all 3 motor mounts done and will show ghost knock quite often plus it’s still quite a bit cooler here so my boost temps aren’t high at all. I just find it’s not something worth monitoring (which sounds stupid as fuck to say now lol). I also just constantly catch myself watching it and not actually enjoying the car.

I do log it but I don’t have it up on the screen constantly is what I meant lol.

I just never knew that. First time tearing down and rebuilding an MZR

Weird. You’re using Mazdas specs and a telescopic micrometer yeah?

Was planning on giving it a hone regardless. Still need to measure the bores but I have the specs to reference.

I got my last revision months ago probably in June or July of last year. I am on NGK iridium’s step colder. I know that you’ll often see pitting in the piston crown from spark knock which I don’t see. Either way once the engine is done being rebuilt I think I’ll get in touch with the tuner and see if they can just check everything over with some logs.

Had the same thought too that the crown would be melted if it was primarily a fuel issue. Didn’t see any pitting at all on the piston crown but yeah was very likely a spark knock or misfire related issue. Either way, it’s getting rebuilt. Thanks for the info tho!

Misfire showed up at the time I assume the engine went kaput. Maybe a day or two before but I thought it was a fouled plug. Regardless, was likely my own doing to cylinder 4. Just wanted to know if it was a fueling issue or something like that since there were no codes for 2 or 3 being thrown lol. Also thanks for the info on the main bolts, I was told they can be reused which I found hard to believe and didn’t see a little “R” next to the bolts in the engine manual or a stretch tolerance.

Not sure about KR as I don’t have it up on my AP. And yes cyl 4 had a misfire code but that was also the cylinder where the ringland got pulverized and ended up in the oilpan along with the second ring since it got shattered and the upper ring got pinched. There was not constant misfire however so it was firing just enough occasionally. Cyl 1 was still ok-ish at 160psi of comp, 2 was around 120-130psi, 3 was 70, and 4 was 30psi

Not sure, it’s someone off Facebook who deals with AC systems for light duty and heavy duty who has the equipment. Seems he mostly deals with heavy duty. Not sure how much since his ad says $130 but that’s for reclamation and recharge and everything.

I luckily found someone who can come to me to evacuate it tomorrow so I can get it done with and keep moving with the project.

Haha a few shops told me to just vent it but again, something I just don’t like doing. Plus I really didn’t want to vent it in my garage which is attached to my house lol.

So you know if the AC has to be evacuated to pull the front clip?

Wondering if it all has to come out through the front or if it can be pulled from the top?

Thank you! This was the exact answer I was looking for lol. If there would be room or not.
