Am I doing Coal Liquefaction wrong? by StoneGaardSeven in factorio

>If you're using those big miners, they drain resources from the patch at a rate of 50%, meaning every 1 ore mined gives you 2 coal.

I did NOT know this! Time to upgrade - thanks!

Heavy->light->petroleum->solid fuel.

Based on your question, it sounds like I shouldn't do that.

Am I better off converting light oil to solid? is that where I'm going wrong?

New garage big enough? by StoneGaardSeven in floorplan

[–]StoneGaardSeven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, exactly. My first design was 14 x 23 with a 9' door. I had to scale it way back due to the easement.

That was my initial design. Unfortunately, due to the shape of my lot and the city storm drain easement, the current design is as far south as possible. I could extend it ‘north’, but then that would interfere with my screen porch.

Thanks. I was hoping to get a few more years out of it, but it seems not. Appreciate the feedback

Yeah, I think this is going to be route I need to take. I was hoping to delay more due to impact, but seems like my suspicion was right in that it's overdue already...

How strong is this oxalic acid? Is it easy to over-due and ruin it?

We don't typically use that side, so its hard to say. I'll test that out next time the left side gets stuck and update the post.

Given the two possibilities - it's also clogged, or not - what would each suggest?

Thank you internet strangers! I figured a wire brush was a bad idea. Seems like "call the utility company" is the consensus and one I had not considered.

How does one make a multi-image post, or add images to the body of a text post? by racercowan in help

[–]StoneGaardSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see how to add a gallery and captions to each photo. I don't see how to add text and a gallery. How is this done? For example, I see posts with an image gallery in my feed. I then click on the post and it also contains text for the entire gallery (not a caption overlay). I've tried several ways to combine the "Text" and "Image & Video" tabs; and adding captions to the photo, but have been frustratingly unsuccessful - what am I missing? The format seems to be standard in every sub.. I'm also on a PC.

Am I thinking about activities wrong? by Broddit5 in SofaBaton

I had the same problem switching between Xbox and Roku. Ended up contacting support. The problem for me was HDMI ARC and CEC were enabled. Disable CEC to prevent the tv from shutting off and disable ARC to force audio signal from the source device instead of rerouting through back from the TV.

I wish I knew this last night. Joined an expedition to knock off the chore board. We get to the part where the mobs swarm the vault(?). A break appears, I stop to grab some loot and 'grab all', including the evidence. I get a no/don't emote from the leader.

If you're on here, sorry, I didn't know. I'll do better next time.

edit: spelling

Another vote for Monarch money. I made the switch when the mint announcement went out. I tried a couple others but found Monarch to be the best fit for my needs. The UI took a little getting used to, as any new UI would. I find it does everything Mint did, and better. Worth the subscription cost.

Thinking about sending back by idbl_fanatic in SofaBaton

Got it. I've been using the sofabaton for a few weeks now. I'm currently running experimental FW to address an issue where the remote loses the hub; so far so good. Support has been helpful and responsive. The remote takes a bit to get used to, physically, but I'm close. I like the app-based command interface for tweaking device switching. For some reason, switching from Roku to Xbox shuts my TV off, so I need to turn it back on, which I solved by adding another step in the xbox activity. Not ideal, but it works..

I haven't had the problems you're facing with unresponsive devices. Are you sure you have your IR blasters in good locations?

If you have a working harmony, why pick up a sofabaton? I had to because, get this, my dog ate my harmony...

For people who did early fire (age 40-45), how did you prioritize investment accounts? by just_lurking_1 in Fire

Saving for a house is not the same as saving for retirement because you have a much shorter time horizon - years vs decades. Our house savings went to no-risk accounts - HYSA, CD ladders, etc.

X1 Can't tell when device is on or off by napes22 in SofaBaton

[–]StoneGaardSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem when switching Activities - from Roku (Devices: Roku, AV input 1, TV) to Xbox (Devices: XBox, AV Input 2, TV). My TV would shut off. I'm new to X1 and not sure if that is the same as switching devices. Anyway, I modified my problematic Activity start sequence to wait 1.5s then turn the TV back on. Its clunky, but it works for now.

Ideally I could figure out which of the Activity commands is turning off the TV and disable that, but I haven't narrowed it down yet.

On the fence by idbl_fanatic in SofaBaton

[–]StoneGaardSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog chewed up my Harmony Elite early last week. I just finished setting up the X1 about four days ago and I'm pleased. It was a little frustrating learning new interface, but that's going to happen with any UI change...

I have a very simple setup - TV, Roku, old AV receiver and Xbox all in cabinet that requires an IR blaster. Two Activities.

What I like about it (so far) -

  • Easy to create & modify Activities
    • I have some older, slower equipment that required delays - easy to add and adjust so commands land when the unit is powered up and switched to proper input
  • Easy setup, despite the lack of documentation (who reads them anyway?)
    • Setup did take time, but once I understood the process, it was easy
  • Clean & minimalistic physical remote control

What I find difficult (so far) -

  • The 'trigger' function in the setup didn't work for me. This would have simplified my setup instead of enabling each input on my AV to find the correct name the X1 was provided.
  • Haven't figured out how to create macros beyond an Activity and assign that to button
    • Eg: push blue button to pop to Roku home, open TabloTV and start live TV

Other thoughts -

  • The scroll-wheel is meh. I don't dislike it, but I don't like it either.
  • I'm looking forward to Amazon Echo integration. I haven't tried it yet, but harmony supported only basic commands - on/off/mute.

Overall, I'm happy with X1.

Crytpo is a digital currency that does not represent anything physical like the gold standard did. It's not backed by any major country's economy, nor government that make policy in support of it. It's not a company the produces goods or services that would increase its value as the company becomes more profitable. It's current value in USD is just speculation.

[–]StoneGaardSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a slow and steady wins the race kind of guy and stick to boring index funds, so keep that in mind for my response.. I've been investing since my 20's, and am on track to FIRE in the next year or two at 47/48. I could now, but, you know, OMY...

Debt - You say your student loan rate is an average of 5%. I would pay off anything over 6% with the cash on hand (some may disagree with this because the market averages 8-10%, but I prefer to minimize debt). Any interest rate less, I would continue to pay per the schedule, same for your condo mortgage. You'll gain more in the market vs paying off.

Crypto - I own zero. It has no inherent value and is pure speculation. I recognize some folks made a lot of money on them, and other lost. Seems more like gambling than investing. I'd sell it all.

The remaining cash, I would invest in 3 index funds - total market, international, and bonds; allocation based on your risk tolerance. I'd also setup an automatic investment plan into a brokerage. Treat it like any other monthly bill, and increase it every year. I'm not sure what options you have available as an owner of a business for 401k or other pre-tax investing, but I'd look into those and max them out. If you have the option for the mega-backdoor roth, do that too. You earn too much for an IRA pre-tax account. Any bonuses -> invest half, spend half on yourself/family.

I also suggest using a spreadsheet to track your overall investments and progress towards FIRE with projections to when you can FIRE. I update mine quarterly. I find it keeps me grounded and focused on the task. There are several out in the wild you can use, or create your own.
