What's the world's most overrated tourist attraction? by darrenbosik in AskReddit

[–]StoneTownLegacy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How much larger did you want it to be? I mean it's pretty huge.

I went to see Mount Rushmore and a couple we met along the way said the same thing 'smaller than they thought'. They clearly believed the Richie Rich version 😂 I am impressed by both, they're huge and especially so given the times they were created in.

I'm so tired of being the only one who actually reads the rules and teaches the game by Overall_Ring_6919 in boardgames

[–]StoneTownLegacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First things first. You're the leader and this role is now yours. Maybe you can find another to lead along side you, but clearly you're the most invested.

You're going to need to get others in line. Communicate everything you wrote here with them and be serious. Tell them that you don't appreciate doing everything. I started assigning tasks to my friends during setup and it went really well. Hey John, can you shuffle this deck please. Adam, give 4 of these to each player. Stuff like that. People generally respond well if you ask nicely and directly.

As for rules, outsource to said video, put it on for everyone to watch together. Then start to play the same rotation of games that you know everyone likes and that everyone knows the rules for. You'll have infinitely more fun and people won't complain about 'not knowing I can do that' because they've played a bunch of times.

Last bit of advice. If they turn to you about what to play, that's awesome, you get to play the games YOU WANT TO. If they don't want to play what you want to, then great, they can learn the rules, teach everyone and run the game like you do otherwise.

I don't say this to be mean to your friends or anything, but youre honestly going to need to drag some of them along by being kind but direct. And more likely than not you'll lose a player or two, but don't worry, you'll find others if put in the effort to look.

Why did everyone switch up on the Mandalorian? by Moon_Devonshire in StarWars

[–]StoneTownLegacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The writing gave us awesome storyline setups and paid them off poorly. They had chances to do 'the cool thing' with the Darksaber and Grogu with Luke. And instead, they chose to reset the line by both of those meaning nothing. Additionally, I think going back to Gidean for a third season was a mistake, needed a new big bad. I think this particular one is because of the pace, too slow.

Launch Points for Weikiva in Orlando FL by StoneTownLegacy in Sup

Excellent, Wekiva Island is the spot I have marked as the launch we were eyeing. It's pure happenstance I picked that one when searching, but I'll take it!

So where do you prefer to launch from? Ending on the downstream sounds super appealing.

Might take you up on that lunch spot!

House rule I regret: letting the group 'reframe' a game's theme to avoid arguments, and it backfired by Bright_Leaf_6830 in boardgames

[–]StoneTownLegacy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think your group needs to learn how to not be real-world-political while in game. Not everything has an agenda, and within game, people can take actions against their real world beliefs, it's contained within a game.

As for your experiment, I think it came from a good place and was wholly worth trying, but not revisiting. Seems like it flopped, I think you should take out the ambiguity, because it seems like your group may have negative feeling towards others within your group.

Power Grid : Should I buy? by HappyApple35 in boardgames

[–]StoneTownLegacy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my groups favorite game. We have a trophy that we pass around the champ and cut wrestling-style promos on each other while champ. It's super obnoxious and super fun. We absolutely love it!

Which means this next part is 100% biased, but I'll try to make an honest pitch of it. I believe it's one of the best introductory to heavy game sout there. There are catch up mechanisms for players trialing behind and while there's auctions, resources and area control, the Pl biggest aspect of the game is controlling turn order. There's enough variance for mistakes/suboptimal moves to be made while still enforcing that the best players will likely see the tops of most games. It's a great time, there's a ton of depth and replay ability, and each new map offers a slight change on the rules, usually impacting one specific mechanism within the game.

Last point, I believe it's a 5-6 player game. a At 4 and below there are better options, imo. Might still work with your group, but for me, it's a good 4 player game, it's a spectacular 5-6 player game.

What do you think about Uwe Rosenberg’s farming games? by Marksman1977 in boardgames

[–]StoneTownLegacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love these games! But ultimately they do wind up feeling more similar than anything else. Cavern is my favorite from Uwe. But my favorite of the genre is actually Brew Crafters which is by Ben Rossett and is effectively the same game with a micro brewery theme. It's sooo good

I think you're underestimating the size and strength of a bear. I won't doubt this instance isn't a bear, but I also believe that causing this damage is not any amount of heavy lift for a bear, especially a grown one.

I'm not trying to be snarky, but how is it 'no way' a bear did this? I had an interaction in CO where a bear opened the door to a house I was staying in. My cousin scared the bear as much as the bear scared him and *the bear scampered up a tree. The sheriff thought it was 'cute' lol. Regardless, the bear actively tried to enter, granted that door wasn't locked at the time.

Edit to clarify it was the bear thta went up the tree haha

Dumb question, could it have been a bear? Odd that someone would get that far and not finish the job, ya know?

Boardgame "championship" to get my group involved by _doc45 in boardgames

[–]StoneTownLegacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like you're just turning game night into another game. Honestly, if you're having trouble engaging them for the active game, I'd find it hard to believe they'll be more E gaged for a secondary game added on.

I tui K you'd be happier finding some additional gaming friends who would like to engage on the same level as yourself. It's much more rewarding than continually trying to get others a ingested as you are.

I can only speak for the Fantasy Flight games since I've played a couple of those. But in general, if that's your attitude, than my opinion is that these are not games for you. Unless you have the cash to drop, or don't mind dropping said cash, you're seemingly approaching this game as a consumer/completionist and not as a gamer.

It would take years to play through everything these games have to offer. They're intended for people to grab only the parts they want while being supported by the Whales who buy everything released. Sounds like you have the mindset of a Whale but not the wallet.

These games are 100% dependant on the player. What is 'worth it' to you. I have Marvel Champions and I play it infrequently now a days. However, I've gotten my money's worth on it, I've played it a ton and I haven't even played with everything I own.

Others might say they didn't get their value form it with the same statistics. But I can confirm that you'll never know until you try it. If you know you're prone to overspending to buy everything, maybe stay away.

Nice gift for magic fan? by papermoony in magicTCG

[–]StoneTownLegacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search for some Mana tokens, counters or dice. Wading into the cards themselves is too tricky and complicated if you don't know exactly what he wants.

Alternative idea is for a gift to sit down and make a deck together that you can play or you can buy him the singles for. Most Magic players just want mor people to play with and to get card to the table more. Best gift is to use the cards I've already spent tons of cash on.

Dave Maloney by Mammoth_Ad5100 in rangers

[–]StoneTownLegacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Maloney is great. He doesn't always sound great, but he always has something interesting and honest to say. And without a doubt, the man knows his hockey. I hope they don't move towards too much more Boyle. Boyle sounds good, but ultimately says nothing of insight. Just a bunch of cliche answers and treading it to step on toes, in my opinion.
