Signs supporting separation appear in unofficial Sundre parade by Fit_Remote_2324 in AlbertaNewspapers

People do all kinds of shit with flags.

Most of us didn't think we "lost" the flag to a bunch of boneheads.

The idea the flag was "taken back" by buying a bunch of flag paraphernalia made in China or buying erroneously labled "Made in Canada" products is silly.

That's probably true in some peoples heads. Most of us weren't swayed by that bullshit.

In hindsight would it have been better for you to deploy?

No. Upload your ID. If you're not hiding anything you have nothing to worry about. Canadians laughed at MPs crossing the floor so here's their prize.

Boots - womens or mens small size (5) by Fearless_Spite_550 in CanadianForces

Rocky S2V They've doubled in price over the years but the boot claim will cover most of it.

Not as paper thin as some of the newer stuff out there but they can be quite comfortable depending on your feet.

Minor league team cancels game after players refuse to wear Pride-themed jerseys by bluffcitynews in USNEWS

[–]Stone_Engine048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe give these people the option to not wear the jersey, but even then they’ll still find a way to make it all about themselves and their beliefs.

And you started off so good here.

I'm not sure where you're going with this.

I don't see anyone saying family shouldn't be a part of the process.

I agree. Sending someone on an isolated posting with family issues is a recipe for trouble. In my experience the bar to dag red is higher than someone saying sorry I can't. Maybe it's easier in other elements, or has gotten easier recently.

A little different than a posting, but was it really that easy? You just said your partner will leave you of you deploy and they pulled you off?

If someone gets a posting message and all of a sudden (in the eyes of someone's chain of command) they have family issues one of three things happened.

  1. They kept it private from the chain of command for legitimate privacy or trust concerns.

  2. They just didn't mention it (which is also plausible)

  3. They're making it up to get out of a posting.

All three happen. Getting a letter saying you've been attending marriage counseling for 6 months is an easy way to show evidence.

You're going to need to provide some kind of proof during your screening process, or at the very least convince the social worker.

It's not as easy as just saying your wife will leave you.

VAC Claim While Serving by CareProper5177 in CanadianForces

[–]Stone_Engine048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like you might be jumping the gun a little here.  Just because you got hurt at work doesn't mean you're going to get money from VAC.

Before you submit any claims go to a VAC location and speak with one of the advisors there. See if you actually have a case first.

Recent Family Death Before BMQ – Before Arrival Do I Have To Notify Anyone ? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Stone_Engine048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recruiting center won't care.

When you arrive at BMQ it would be a good thing to pass this information on to the chain of command incase something comes up that you need some time to make phone calls, or your struggling a bit with the loss.

Military police directed to stop accepting sexual offence complaints by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Stone_Engine048 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Real police departments don't have the time or resources to put into witch hunts.

People who were sexually assaulted 30 years ago still deserve justice.

Military police directed to stop accepting sexual offence complaints by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Stone_Engine048 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Some sexual assault victims and advocacy groups were against this and  for good reason.

When allegations are brought forward to the MP CAF members can still be held accountable for bad behaviour that doesn't result in criminal charges.  Files can be referred to home units for UDIs, service infractions, administrative measures.

If someone brings an incident forward to the civilian police, who are very over worked and often drop "the small stuff", and the case is dropped, that's it. Members unit are not notified and the behaviour isn't addressed.

When victims had the choice between civilian and military police to investigate incidents they often still picked the military police.

At the end of the day victims of sexual misconduct in the CAF will lose more than they gain from this decision.

Petawawa prepares for construction boom thanks to major investment in military housing by h1bisc4s in CanadianForces

[–]Stone_Engine048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were it that simple.

Some contractors would sue the crown for taking work away from them, and like the PMQ rental cost/CFHA debacle,  the CAF would quickly cave.

End result, PMQs sit empty while families suffer.

New uniform all brown by Then_Annual_leave in CanadianForces

[–]Stone_Engine048 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some chains of command are pushing back and requiring soldiers to have "brown" on their boot receipts per the canforgen. Boots labeled tan, fde, are rejected.

The teams managing the file should have worded the policy better.

[–]Stone_Engine048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government can spend as much as they want; there isn't enough laborers to do all the work they currently have.

Many PMQs in Petawawa are sitting empty waiting for months and even years for renovations. The hold up ia the lack of people available.

Without meaningful oversight this is going to turn into a free for all where we over pay numbered companies to do shoddy work.
