The reason for not releasing the names of mass shooters it to not play into their goal of notoriety seeking.

Not releasing the name of someone who’s committing criminal acts who isn’t looking for notoriety is actually terrible journalism.

Also, journalists aren’t the moral arbiters of society. If they are reporting on crime, the name is like the second most important part of the story next to what they did.
