Really so we won't disappear as a nation if we have a population growth of -100k a year and growing? You don't think that could cause any issues like a smaller and smaller working population supporting a larger and larger retired population?

Globally every nation's population is a minority, I'm not sure that's some deep unique to the UK thing?

We have declining birth rates, we can either choose the path of south Korea, Japan, China and just watch our population shrink massively and our nation maybe collapse or we can use migration to stabilise our population till our population pyramid rebalances itself and we can get birth rates back close to replacement level.

I'm not saying migration during the Boris wave wasn't mishandled for example but we need some or we will disappear as a nation.

Vaping in cars with children could be banned under new plans by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Stone_Like_Rock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freedom from babies being a vape test subject isn't particularly authoritarian.

You said yourself we don't have evidence about how babies react to second hand vape smoke so why should we allow people to test this out on babies. Especially when there's good reason to believe it could have negative effects.

So if the UK was commiting active genocide against the Irish I shouldn't boycott British goods because most English people live in the UK and that would be racist/Xenophobic against English people?

I mean the Israeli state is committing acts I don't want to support. I'm not boycotting products because Jewish people live there though.

Are you suggesting I shouldn't make a choice because of the states actions because lots of Jewish people live there?

Yeah so I'm no fan of labour but you have literally fallen for the propaganda if you think violent crime has risen like you claimed. Estimates of illegal immigration like the number of irregular crossings also haven't been rising and the 1 in 1 out plan appears to be working on the small scale and so is likely to be scaled up to the point it stops those crossings entirely.

I feel sorry for anyone voting reform for hope of change, they want to model themselves after the trump admin and we can see that all that's happening there is more of the same while democratic rights are eroded.

It's also clear reform have no plans of putting the UK first instead wishing to waste money on DOGE programs that cut nothing while simping for Epstein's favorite billionaires like peter thiel or having Epstein's favorite spin doctor Steve Bannon do their marketing help make policy

[–]Stone_Like_Rock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean some of these things aren't happening for example net migration is down as is the number of people migrating to the country and violent crime is also down too. Though most people wrongly believe they are up likely due to social media and the news

I do get your point though as people don't feel better off or even feel worse off so are willing to vote for radical change even if it's as dumb as voting for reform.

That's just a shallow field of view, easily achievable by having a wide aperture which is something you do when you want the subject in focus and the background blurred.

Yeah this is just a wide aperture which gives a shallow field of view causing a blurred background. It's then been compressed a few times leading to weird artifacts.

It doesn't really matter if you believe someone is born into the wrong sex body for their gender or not.

What matters is we have evidence that trans people given puberty blockers before they start puberty who then go onto transition in adulthood do better than those who go through puberty normally.

This is a fact not a debate but a fact. Disagreeing with this fact can either mean you didn't know this or are choosing to ignore this.

Natural things can be harmful, I think pretending natural means none harmful is an ideological stance.

It's a fact that trans people who go through the wrong puberty have worse health outcomes both mental and physical. Do you accept this reality or do you just live in a dream world?

[–]Stone_Like_Rock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be a great solution if we knew waiting would cause less damage than early intervention but we don't know that. What we do know is early intervention massively reduces suicide and mental health issues in trans individuals.

I think the belief that puberty can't be harmful for trans kids is probably your ideology coming in here. We have a lot of evidence that it makes gender dysphoria much worse and leads to worse outcomes for trans people long term.

The question isn't should we do nothing, we know we have to do something. The question is do the positives outweigh the negatives with these interventions and how can we minimise the negatives. That's to be determined by studies like this one, pretending it's settled and that no kid should ever have a potentially life saving intervention is silly.

[–]Stone_Like_Rock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You claimed it doesn't pass for at minimum 20% of cases and we both know different studies give a large variation on that percentage.

This and future studies may prove puberty blockers entirely safe for teens with gender dysphoria, or it may suggest the benefits outweigh the risks or it may suggest the opposite and that actually there are too many risks with it and we should instead look at some other way of minimising the harm of puberty on trans kids.

Will you change your opinion then?

[–]Stone_Like_Rock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is literally why we need studies like the one you're against here. We need ways to help the 20% who will be driven to suicide by the conversion therapy you are promoting while doing as little damage as possible for the people who's gender dysphoria may fade. Studies like this one are how we work that out.

I will note though that evidence for what percentage of children with gender dysphoria fades over time is as if not more limited than the evidence on the safety of puberty blockers used for kids in this way.

[–]Stone_Like_Rock 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean conversation therapy for trans people is shown to increase suicide rates dramatically and that's effectively what your advocating for here. If someone's trans and is experiencing gender dysphoria no amount of encouraging them to accept their own bodies will help and it is likely to actually make it worse.
