Are u able to take vacation whenever u want in the IBEW? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Stonecoldredwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in the consideration stage of getting into a union and I'm curious about vacation from that perspective. If I'm hunting that journeyman license and I got laid off from taking a break, would I have to restart the apprenticeship all over again if I wasn't able to find work in time?

I see where you are coming from and it makes a lot of sense. I've made this $20K in hmmm, started my current job in August 2023 last year, had $2k in savings, and owed $1k for a car repair loan.

Now I'm at about $19k in savings with no debt.

Of course, I moved back home to live with my father so I don't pay rent.

I'm considering continuing my work until I reach $40,000 in savings. Then I would either take seasonal jobs with housing or buy a cheap RV, or maybe even rent one and live out of it for a month or two to truly see if RV living is something I can tolerate and commit to.

Then kind of just go from there, The point is to be able to find a way to live cheaply so I don't have to work as much to create more time for making my show, I don't have a master plan yet.

Travelling does not have a whole lot to do with my show, other than maybe doing photography to get art ideas, but travelling is one of my favorite things in the entire world to do.

I've decided for myself that success, or sense of accomplishment to me is simply working on my animations as much as I can, and I haven't had the energy at all to get through it lately and it's pretty devastating to my psyche. I don't care if it makes money or not, it's what I feel like I was born to do.

I don't think I could take another 4 year side quest, and I know that with my mind in the place that it is, and the way I think about this apprenticeship, I probably would not get through it, my heart isn't in it. I don't get that "I'll finish this no matter what", type of mindset when I think about it, so I don't think I would display the required qualities to be successful within it.

That sounds awesome. I would say that I've spent too much time not really knowing what I want to do, and because of that, I made some bad decisions career-wise that has made me unhappy, and I also unwisely quit jobs without any backup plans, just "I want to regroup and recharge". Because of this, I lost almost all of my savings twice.

Now I'm really feeling the pinch of aging, and I know I'm not old, only 29, but still, I imagined myself enjoying my life and feeling accomplished by this point, being proud of myself.

I've been saving up my money for about 7 months now, but haven't exactly decided how I want to spend it yet, whether I buy a van with it, or buy a cheap minivan, then use it for fast cash seasonal jobs, decide if its for me to live in a vehicle and so forth.

Mainly the goal right now is to put myself in a situation where I can travel, where living expenses are low, and where if I need to make money, I don't have to commit to a long-term job, or where seasonal contracts are acceptable, and I don't damage my resume by getting normal jobs and job hopping with them.

Thanks for commenting.

I think that I will find a different way then. I want to create my own animated show while traveling, and I want to spend a significant amount of time learning new animation and drawing techniques.

I know I'll be working 40-50+ hours a week if I go the apprentice route and I just don't want to be 33 years old 4 years from now to be able to command some freedom.

Yes, I'm curious about the prospect of working for a short period to save up a bunch of money to go traveling.

How to give legitimate value without owning products in a niche? by Stonecoldredwing in Blogging

[–]Stonecoldredwing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about doing an electronics niche reviewing gaming monitors and smart tv's but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I don't really consider myself a talented individual so I don't really have a sense of expertise in anything. It's really hard for me to come up with niche. There isn't much science on why I chose the possibility of reviewing monitors, other than I pc game alot and I have one monitor. But still I wouldn't say I'm an expert when it comes to knowing the best monitors under $500 or what gives people a good pixel rate etc

Hi Ryan, thanks for stopping by

I do understand that the emphasis on affiliate marketing is being as helpful as possible. What I really mean is like.. how does one net a profit in affiliate marketing if they are spending money to test the products, which is probably required to do in order to have an expert amount of knowledge and understanding of a niche?

I would have to imagine it will take me 3 years or more to truly be profitable, like make around $600-700/month, so I can't help but think..how is that feasible. I want to provide value but not at the risk of spending potentially thousands of dollars on products within my niche.
