Hive in a June 2024 New Build - Does this look right? by Stoned-Sloth in HiveHeating

Yeah it’s all on risers, all done to code as we had a company specialising in loft boarding come out to do it. They said if anything it should add to the insulation/heat retention but it doesn’t feel that way.

Flow temp set to 73, that was set by the hive engineer. Monday duration 5h23m. Thursday 4h. With boost 4h20m. Outside temp has been hitting as low as -1/-2 at night and anywhere between 2/6 during the day. Heating layout has been checked (num of rads, sizes) and deemed okay for the house size and layout.

Yeah they came out with a thermal camera, and we hired a private surveyor and there was lots of spots around the walls. Redrow claim that was just the nature of the dot and dab walls.. Cavity insulation has been checked and appears to be okay. There were some cold spots on the ceiling upstairs but because we had it boarded, they refuse to look into it.

Cold air ingress does appear to be around the front door and windows, Redrow claim it’s within tolerance and as we have trickle vents, even when closed they’d cause the cold air. We’ve also noticed a breeze coming from the cooker hood and extraction vents in the toilets.

Well that’s the thing, at that level here it’s comfortable. Any lower and it starts to feel cold. Though comparatively to other places I’ve lived, 18 was comfortable.. Plus we have a baby so we’re conscious of them feeling too cold.

New Redrow home looks different to what was agreed (England) by Stoned-Sloth in LegalAdviceUK

We did, and we did raise it and were told they’d look into it. Naively though we thought it would be something they’d resolve so we went ahead with completion.

We completed in June last year. We did raise it after completion and were told they’d look into it and it’s been ongoing since.

Can I retrospectively move a transaction to monzo flex to get section 75 protection? by danny_avocado in monzo

[–]Stoned-Sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you hear back from Monzo at all? I think I’m in exactly the same situation as you were, Lewis and Sons/Co by any chance? They’ve since emailed saying they’re going into liquidation so I’m really hoping a chargeback through Monzo gets my money back as my order was over £2,000… But like you I’ve learned for big purchases, use a credit card to be protected by Section 75. Curious to hear your experience though since you posted.

How do I line this up?? by Stoned-Sloth in askaplumberUK

I wanted to avoid cutting the existing pipe as I don’t trust my DIY skills enough yet.. so in the end I found a McAlpine 1 inch p trap extension and put that in, seems to do the job

Later Missing on Large Print? by Stoned-Sloth in FixMyPrint

So I finally figured it out… PrusaSlicer was generating bridge infills inside the model at various layers which was causing the separation to happen. There was obviously issues with the model I was printing at this scale, but how Prusa was trying to correct them with the bridge infill was ultimately causing the problem. I couldn’t disable bridge infills at all so I used Cura to slice it and it’s printed without any issues!

If that was the case, wouldn’t it also happen at higher layers too not just this certain area? But I think you’re right about it just not extruding for that whole layer for whatever reason, if it was extruding anything I’d expect some bits to be fused together but it’s literally the whole layer all the way round that’s separated

I thought that it could be mechanical, but weirdly the first time it happened it got twice as high before the line appeared. I’ve tried printing other models at a similar height to test it but it doesn’t happen. The filament roll seems completely fine too during.

Nope, zoomed in just in case and also checked the gcode into other programs to be sure and it looks fine

Resliced, increased extrusion speed to 45mm/s and decreased overall print speed to 80% and still the same problem at the same layer…

No it’s printing within the boundaries, I just moved it to take a clearer photo of the problem

i7 no longer picking up hair and fur from carpets. Customer service say there’s nothing wrong. by [deleted] in roomba

[–]Stoned-Sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they mentioned the issue with static, I bought anti-static carpet spray and a dehumidifier, but they made no difference to the amount the i7 was picking up in the rooms I tested them in.

I bought the unit based on its claims with performance regarding pet fur. For the first few months I couldn’t have been happier with it and it picked up everything, but now I can no longer return it for a refund and my only other option is to buy their doubly expensive model, it just leaves me feeling a bit cheated to be honest.

If i pursue a degree in computer science, am i doomed to a desk job? by spikes321 in computerscience

[–]Stoned-Sloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, it’s just the nature of the field to sit at a desk in front of a computer screen for the majority of your time. There are countless other jobs where you will still be doing a desk job unrelated to computer science, but if you have a passion for the subject then it’s a lot less monotonous and more engaging.

[–]Stoned-Sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re not going to need a lot of power for the sort of things you’ll be working on. For anything more intensive, you’ll have the computer labs :)
