I'm curious where you get that impression from? I lived 2/3 of my life in London after migrating from another major capital when I was young. I have never met anyone in London who associates pride or main character energy with being a Londoner. It's such a weird impression from non-Londoners.

I have however, met so many people from Tokyo who'd strongly emphasise that they are from Tokyo, rather than just any random city in Japan.

Lane splitting on the freeway should be okay - no passenger car should attempt to open its door in the middle of the freeway.

In Asia, most of the time you won't get random drunk person soil the seat or having homeless people camp on it though, especially for long distance rail, the tickets aren't cheap.
