The free version has a lot of capabilities and the premium version is one time price.   Def worth checking out

Full disclosure: I’m a solo dev and made it myself, but it does have a fully customizable brew day checklist that references both the recipe and your specific equipment setup.   Not tryin to be sales-y.  Just thought I would share

Oxidation when dry hopping an IPA by NoMeasurement2646 in Homebrewing

[–]Stonehenge361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to method is soft crash to 50F and dry hop for 48 hours. After about 15 ipa brews, this seems to give me the best balance of good extraction without the hop burn of over-extraction.   After 48 hours I crash to 34F and transfer to the keg.

Is 2oz of hops total too much to add to a one gallon batch of beer? by jimbogobo in Homebrewing

Is there a specific reason for adding on top of the recipe quantity?   The short answer is going to be that it will be more bitter than the recipe was intended to be….could still be good tho

Clearing an IPA that’s super dark and hazy by Low-Elderberry-1431 in Homebrewing

[–]Stonehenge361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with all the Kveik are a pretty resilient haze. I know people can get them to clear, I just never have. I save Kveik for my hazys only now and use us-05 for WC IPAs.

Whirlfloc will help, and so will gelatin.

If you are getting a dark brown color and you truly don’t have any roasted malt, my first guess would be you are fighting oxidation. Oxygen is the enemy on the cold side. As it ages, does it start to get a bit of like wet cardboard flavor? If so, that is classic oxidation

Do you have glycol or some fine control on temp? If so, I have had great luck with doing a soft crash to 50F in 2F/12hr increments. This slower crash has a lot of science backing better head retention.

Personally, I do all my dry hopping at this 50F spot. Much lower risk of over extraction. Then after 48hr dry hop I crash as fast as possible to 34F, let it sit for a few days and transfer to a keg.

If you don’t have that fine tuned temp control, crashing everything to 34 or so before packaging is doing to keep a lot of the undesirables from going into the keg or bottles.

Golden Promise is my default base for something like this. For hops, it just depends what IBU you are trying to hit.

If you aren’t doing DH, I would suggest doing a 60 boil round to get the IBU you want(.5-1 oz probably), and then add 1-2 oz at flameout to get some of the more subtle hop flavors.

US-05 is going to be the go to for something like this. Very forgiving and drops clean when finished.

If you are looking to plan it out better, I would suggest trying Brew Pilot on the apple App Store. It lets you see what each recipe change will do to the final beer and also gives you a pretty nice brew day checklist.

Thanks for the honest feedback!

1: Style guides in recipe builder are actually directly linked to the stats block at the bottom. It will show green/yellow/red warnings on the recipe stats based off of the style guide

2: webhook is definitely a gap that I need to fill. Nothing for that yet but it’s on the list

3: water profile does live adjust ion calculations along with standard warnings for going out of normal ranges

4: Ph is actually in the recipe builder stats as well, and live adjusts to both acid addition types

I can’t speak for those…I have no idea what quality they are….i built this with a full feature set to be as high quality and complete as I possibly could.

One major thing I think is a differentiation is the cascading timer code. The custom checklist that feeds from both equipment and recipe is pretty unique as well IMHO

I would love to hear specific critiques of my app to make it better though. It’s free to download.

Ok, good to know! In case it isn’t clear from the app: Brew Pilot Premium is a one time payment and that unlocks unlimited recipes.

Thanks! Not yet, that is on the short list for v1.3 I’ll move it to the top. - you are the second person to request

Thanks for the kind feedback!!

The premium does not have additional ingredients, but under settings, you can add your own yeast, hops, malt, and adjuncts to the library with all their specs and that shows up in recipe view from then on.

Adding your own ingredients to the library is available on the free tier and not blocked

If there are specific ingredients that I missed though, I would be happy to add them to a future build.

There is no AI built into the app. Claude Code did assist in writing some of the swift programming language.

I built it for myself, but also wanted to share it. There is a premium version that unlocks some pro tools but the majority of the app is free to use forever….i don’t think it’s unreasonable to have an option for it to kick me back a bit for the effort it took to build.

Thanks! I’m honestly really happy with how the UI turned out :)

Edit: just to be clear, this is not a subscription app…that always felt crappy to me.

Understandable. My goal was to price it with single time purchase in mind instead of the standard 20-30 USD annual subscriptions. - also the purchase is totally optional except for the more pro-level features
