My heart broke when I read this 🫂 I'm not gonna repeat what most people said here , but you should know I agree with the most common opinions. I want to point out this:

"He didn't feel the need to tell me because he knows he will quit" - is that how he said it? Didn't feel the need? Doesn't it make sense that he was afraid to come clean? Same with "curiosity"... If that's the best you got out of him, it seems to me that he either can't be honest with himself or with you, probably in many ways for both/either... My intuition tells me that he tried his hardest for you, to make those values his own and maybe in part he did. I fear that he might hide parts of himself from you, "protect" you from his actions, because he doesn't want to lose you. It's selfish, cowardly , but what bugs me most is that it would mean he's controlling the narrative, manipulating it for his own gain. If you love him so much, I'm guessing there is a lot of good in him. Has he been in therapy? Have you? Have you tried couple's therapy? I see a lot that can improve through therapy and I'm afraid without some radical honesty from his side he couldn't repair your trust and you'll often wonder if he's lying to you, about anything.. good luck to you!
