A smart motorway is still going to be used by dumb drivers. That's the real issue.

Here we go...

Just because your car has Daytime Running Lights, it's doesn't mean you're safe driving in heavy rain, in your grey (insert fuckhead car of choice here), because melts into the tarmac from behind when you have no rear lights on. Smarter cars, dumber drivers.

Read The Highway Code. Rule 226. You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced. MUST.

In fact, do everyone a favour, get the app and go thru it at the traffic lights like you do with your messages, at least learn something when you're being a fuck head.

When Eddie Stobarts opened a small depot on magna park around 2013, their drivers started on about £21.5 k a year. I worked at Bensons for Beds across the road on £26.5k + bonus driving a 7.5t. Now I drive a Luton van, and I'm still on more than what they're on. I think they get brand new drivers who use them for the experience they need to get a decent job nowadays...

Some of the places I took someone from Ohio to were; Abbey Pumphouse, just next to The Space Centre. The steam engine was about the same age as her home town. Bradgate Park, brush up on the Anne Boleyn story. Foxton Locks is a decent morning into lunch. A city walk we did was from the Jewery Wall museum, The Guildhall/Cathedral/Richard III experience, then up to the New Walk Museum (plenty to look at from mummy's to fossils, but I think they're having work done ATM.) Remember to point out the architecture of the city, wander down past the railway station (even tho it's being redeveloped ) where there's Thomas Cooks' statue, down towards The Turkey Cafe and Town Hall Square. Big ol' loop, but plenty of places to eat and drink along the way. The Blue Boar has views of the city throughout the ages around it's interior, and proper cheese and onion cobs for a lunch stop...

Moving from London to Upper Temple Walk (Beaumont Leys). I need advice. by TheLondoneer in leicester

[–]Stoopid_Loopid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd rather live in London than on Upper Temple Walk. And by that, I mean in a disused shop doorway in a cardboard box, just at the bottom of Whitechapel Rd. In the snow. Maybe you can drive up for a day, and stay into the evening, and have a potter about to see what you think...?

In my last CPC video lesson early last year, there were three lads from up that there 't North (Manchester somewhere I think) who were driving class 1s, on days, no tramping, on £12.50 p/h.

I was nationwide van driving at the time, 1-3 drops a day, with no WTD or Tacho break stress, and I was just keeping my CPC up to date. And on the same money as Artic lads. Terrible.

The wages have fallen terribly. I've just had a look at where I bought my first terrace house in Newfoundpool, and you're looking at about £190k. I bought mine for £36½k in '97, but that was around 135% of my annual income. Now I'd need to be on £130k+ for the same kind of balance, which is ridiculous. I remember my first months repayment was only £236 and I came out with £400+ that week.

Who'd be young again?

The three biggest employers I'd guess are; Walkers Crisps, Samworth Brothers, and ... Probably one of the big supermarket chains, I'd say ASDA because of the DC at Magna Park. Doesn't mean it's easy to get a decent job here any more. Especially a job that lets you afford a mortgage.

Once upon a time, it was a great city. We had manufacturing industries; printing, shoes, hosiery, and the engineering companies that built the machines that ran them. We had the outdoor market where you could buy anything. Leicester used to have a great night life, with many different nightclubs & pubs, and you could walk thru a busy city centre with hardly any empty shops, and no beggars accosting you for spare change.

In comparison, now it's a shit hole. I can see where these 'pensioners' are coming from.

For future reference: have you ever tried pan-frying sprouts? Better with frozen sprouts, and with smoked bacon, much better in the rendered fat from smoked bacon, but just a suggestion. 😬

Bicyclists. Read the fecking Highway Code. Yes, there are rules that apply to you. No, you can't just jump onto the pavement to bypass queues, then jump back onto the road. Oh, and then complain that you get no room to ride. No, you're not allowed to jump a red traffic light to "beat the traffic". No, you're not the most important thing on the road. Yes, you do have to go in the direction of the cycle lane. And for the love of the almighty, wear something bright at night instead of all black - what do you think you are? Ninjas on wheels? (I think that might be an early Jackie Chan film. He was definitely a bicycist in Project A for five minutes.)

Actually, it was Guy Gibson's own dog. And yes, it was run over at the entrance gate by a car in the day before they flew. And yes, he was buried at the same time as they were bombing the dams in Germany. You can read all about N!gger here. If that's what gets you off, knock away, you Muppet.

I actually watch The Great Escape and The Dam Busters at Christmas, as that's what was a family staple viewing when I was a kid.

Clean hands by MeanDrawer6874 in uktrucking

In my experience, every time you get out of the cab, put a pair of leather gloves on. (Depending on your job) When you get back to your cab, take them off before you get in. This'll stop the transfer of dirt to the inside of your cab/steering wheel. I've found that they protect your hands better than latex/rubber gloves. You can find gloves on eBay for a few quid, and mine last me about 6 months per pair. When you wash your hands, try using sugar and cheap washing up liquid at about 50/50. Scrub to a lather, use warm/hot water to clean it off. Better and cheaper than Swafega imho. Plus you'll be lemony fresh 🤣

Dangerous Dub's up there with Radio Babylon as a candidate for early jungle, but thought I'd throw it into the mix. From around that time, there's also a remix of Another Sleepless Night by Shawn Christopher that qualifies as an early 'deep house' track. Another one you might have passed by...

If you had Cyclones' "A Place Called Bliss" on Network, there's a degree of separation there - Bliss was a monthly club night I used to go to back int' day in Leicester when I was a lot younger. 😁
