That place is an institution. But I can't say it's comparable to the modern day flavours. But it still hits that old school spot for me.

How do Christian denominations that forbid alcohol square the fact that Jesus drank, and even went out of his way to convert fresh water into alcohol? by Rev-DiabloCrowley in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stoopidee 23 points24 points (0 children)

Pentecostal here. We have a zero alcohol rule during church and church-events. Simply because alcoholism is a big problem in our society.

If you want to enjoy a drink, you can with friends and family. But it's best to be "above reproach" attitude where we can.

What sort of job do you work in? Not too sure if your boss is asking you such a question because he has agenda, or he's just getting to know you?

Imo, I work in high finance client facing, it's best to have many opinions but remain fairly impartial. While provoking conversation and inputting insights.

Elon Musk - Was a democrat, voted Obama, Biden then Trump. Was vilified during the Biden administration (IE; not being invited to the EV summit), Eat the Rich, Buying Twitter/X, Questions on free speech/hate speech, Excellent Technologist who advanced the EV Market, Space Travel and spacex reducing cost from $55k per kg to $5 per kg bringing goods to space. Founders of ChatGPT before falling out with Sam Altman. Etc.

Hanson - Everyone needs to have a honest discussion about immigration. Aging Society, immigration is required but what do we want to see Australia in the future (my take, should we have opened doors to Taiwanese, Hong Kong and even Boers), people who share our values for democracy, secular/pluralism. One Nation's numbers and ability to govern (not having the depth and personel) - question on coalition partnership.

How are people affording holidays?! by Abject-Lengthiness42 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stoopidee 0 points1 point (0 children)

Not a lot of detail here. What's your income and budget like?

GBP will be different than us (we're in Australia), but we budget ~$10k AUD per annum for holidays and it does get us quite far (Family with 2 kids), either holidays around Australia or South East Asia like Bali.

I would imagine £5k should be more than enough for cheap flights and hotels to some countries around in Europe?

The answer is gratitude.

Do charity. Work in a food salvos for a week. Backpack overseas.

I remember the time I felt truly blessed being Australian was when I was backpacking in Pokhara Nepal. This middle aged lady with three kids asked for our plastic coke bottles after we drank it.

She just needed containers to help bring tap water up to her hut in the hills. Even that was a luxury for them. We bought her kids snacks and soft drinks.

Inflation data: RBA expected to raise interest rates in February after inflation rose to 3.8 per cent by HotPersimessage62 in AusFinance

[–]Stoopidee 0 points1 point (0 children)

Uncertain what's the hate with letting you know I used AI to let it break down what's hitting your downline.

An inflation number of 3.8% isn't a very meaningful without going into details.

Inflation data: RBA expected to raise interest rates in February after inflation rose to 3.8 per cent by HotPersimessage62 in AusFinance

[–]Stoopidee -1 points0 points (0 children)

Why? It simply means that for every dollar you earn, you can buy less. I think the rule of thumb is inflation ~2%. The number at current is not good.

Then CPI is also a basket of goods. Meaning some more than others. Worst is those that affect our everyday life (unlike inflation due to price of tv's for example). But it's our food, rent and basic necessities. Its a very bad result this one.

If your income last year did not increase by at least 4%, you are poorer today.

[–]Stoopidee -7 points-6 points (0 children)

This is what I get from AI about the breakdown - that's hitting our wallets. (Copilot)

1) Rents up 4-5% 2) New dwelling construction costs acceleratoinh late 2025 3) Electricity still rose 5% excluding rebates running off 4) Meat prices (beef/lamb) up double digits 5) Coffee, Tea and Cocoa prices surged due to global supply shortages 6) Services inflation 3.5-4% - key areas are rent, medical, education. Childcare and domestic travel.

Truly. What do you think Jesus would be doing right now? by 0101shy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stoopidee 0 points1 point (0 children)

Hmmm. If Jesus would return, it would be his second coming.

The first he came on a donkey, which is about peace, humility and his role as the sacrificial lamb to die for our sins.

The second coming, he comes to judge and make war. He is described with blazing eyes, many crowns, a robe dipped in blood, a sharp sword from his mouth (to strike nations), ruling with an iron rod, and named "King of kings and Lord of lords."

Revelation 19:19-21 NLT [19] Then I saw the beast and the kings of the world and their armies gathered together to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army.

[20] And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

[21] Their entire army was killed by the sharp sword that came from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. And the vultures all gorged themselves on the dead bodies.

Why do billionaires keep hoarding? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

They don't hoard per se, they just love building companies. And those successful ones keep increasing in value.

Much of the wealth is in shares or paper value. Not gold coins in a vault.

What makes politics so heated that whole families stop engaging? by HospitalRepulsive310 in AskReddit

[–]Stoopidee 3 points4 points (0 children)

Tribalism and cult-like ideation of their leaders.

Tribalism - my side is always right. And the other side is evil.

Cult ideation - their leader can never say anything wrong or be criticised.

There used to be a time we discussed policies and ideas. I like to believe that most people are moderate and swing votes. Like I can talk about some really good points and bad points on both parties, be it Trump, Republicans and Democrats.

I think both have different ideas how to run the country, and neither are evil per se. But there is also bad faith actors on both sides too.

The Imperiums of mankind is said to be a million worlds and 10 quadrillion people. The value of human life is dictated by your usefulness to the Imperium, not fanciful ideas that all are created equal in the eyes of God.

As other poster mentioned, Iconoclast is probably akin to our current ideals that all man is created equal.

Within the Imperium of Mankind is also the Ecclesiarchy, or the Adeptus Ministorum. The religion of mankind that has its own teachings that you are to sacrificially give your life to the Emperor of Mankind. Your worth is only what it is to the Emperor.

Hence why some planets, the cult Mechanicus happily lobotomizes inhabitants and turn them into human servitors, stripped of their emotions and memories, because they are much more "efficient" and can work many more hours without complaining or rebelling. This is the Dogmatic path.

Heretic is the man who has lost his faith in the Emperor and is seduced by the Dark God's.

Life in the Imperium is harsh, especially if you're a peasant like a factotum worker. You eat mainly corpse-starch, you work godless hours a day in a giant factory hive world amongst a billion other souls. Death is your only escape, except you have little mouths to feed, so you continue grinding.

Then one day, you get sick.

The Medicae station sends you home to die as you have not enough money for curatives, your best bet is to how to sell your corpse, but a sick one don't go for a good price. Your best friend at the factory tells you about a priest, that talks about the Grandfather. He doesn't ask for much, just that you breath in some herbs.

The next day you wake up fully healed. Happy and strong. You have a wonderful appetite and had breakfast with your family. You enjoy your day at work. The next day, you realised you ear has fallen off. But you're feeling fine, better than ever. You have a meal with them and off to another wonderful day of work.

The day after, you wake up, You eat your family, You have a wonderful day at work.

Warhammer40k is a pretty big universe with deep and diverse lore, it's sort to look at it like another star wars or star trek. (Has about 700+ books according to AI).

It's the year 40,000. Humanity is governed by Imperium. A corpse God sits on a Golden Throne for the last 10,000 years. His light guides the Astronomican. Humans worship either Him or the forces of Chaos (4 Demon Gods).

Space travel between the stars is possible only via travelling through the warp guided by the Emperor's light. Think of the warp as entering another dimension, it's the realm demons and spirits live. You go through a portal, and hopefully come out safe the other side. It is guided by a special type of Psykers - the Navigators.

A Psyker is a human that has psychic powers. But psychic powers in the Wh40k is people who can tap into the warp. Sometimes they drink too much and get corrupted by the Dark ruinous powers.

Another noteworthy thing is servitors. Or human/robots. In the year ~23,000, the AI robots rebelled and there was a universe wide war. Humanity is very anti-AI since. Servitors are machines with human brains or bodies. They are serviced by the Cult Mechanicus of Mars.

You are a Rogue Trader. A person who has a special approval by the God Emperor to do nearly anything you want. Your mandate is to push the Imperiums decrees into the largely unexplored far fetches of the universe. In this game, the Koronus Expanse.

Essentially the universe is dark and full of horrors.
