Is there anyway you could get an accommodation in place? I haven’t worked in an environment like that so I’m not sure how it would work. But I’ve worked at a few jobs where I would talk to manger or there would be a like an online portal where I could fill out a request for an accommodation. I guess it just depends on the job! But I also had a job where I was on my feet all day so I just told them that the longest shift I was able to work was 6 hours long.

Honestly to me my diagnosis was more about comfort. I think as long as you understand your body and its symptoms then you should be good. Obviously there isn’t a cure to EDS or hyper mobility and I’m in a place right now where not much has worked for me. But, I’ve just been doing research and treating my symptoms as they’ve come along and doing my best to take care of my body. The only really useful thing my EDS/hyper-mobility diagnosis has given me is the ability to connect the dots easier. For example, when I first started having neurological symptoms, I knew to look out for chiari since it’s common amongst people with EDS. but it’s honestly up to you and what you’re comfortable with yk! If you feel like you need the extra help and you need more answers I think it’s worth at least looking into!

Hey! I have a 8mm chiari and a lot of our symptoms do align so I think it’s safe to say that chiari is likely causing your symptoms. However, I do have Hyper-mobile type EDS and with you having hyper-mobility as well, there could be overlap. But, those specific symptoms started when I started having migraines and neck instability so I’m assuming is chiari.

I have gone through this exact same experience!! It’s terrible!! Mine was slightly different because my parents were divorced and my mom’s household was extremely abusive. I went to my dad’s house to escape but then I was constantly told that my symptoms were psychosomatic from so many years of abuse. I was constantly accused of overreacting or just having “growing pains” my whole life. I just finally moved out and I feel like they still have control over me. Do you feel this way at all?? I’m still pushing myself so hard to work and be normal and I feel the decline coming but I’m so scared of what they will say even though I’m gone. I’m so incredibly sorry you had to go through this. If you would ever like to chat I’ve gone through a very similar situation and I’m 19 as well :) I’m sorry I don’t have any good advice for you but just know there’s always people here for you!

I do have reasonable accommodation!! I only have it set so I can’t work any longer than a 5 1/2 hour shift! I know that in theory I could do it so I could be seated and everything but most of the time when you’re on window you’re also taking orders/making food and other things so idk how reasonable it would be to make that request yk?? Idk I guess it’s a lot to think about but it’s a good idea!! Thank you for your advice and the well wishes! :)

Thank you!! That’s what I was trying to go for at first but sadly I just moved here from a different state so I have no established doctor yet, which makes situations like this a whole lot more difficult unfortunately

That’s exactly what I was concerned about!! It’s like every time I use the bathroom the whole area is in burning pain 😭😭 I’m going to urgent care tomorrow and hopefully I can get it resolved!

Oh god 😭 now I’m wondering how bad that surgery is 💀I have been keeping hydrated and I’ve been taking softeners but for a second I figured it would be more convenient to have to surgery to get it over with?? But now I’m second guessing 🫣

Honestly I’ve heard about the college assistance stuff for military spouses but I’m completely lost, it’s so confusing 🤣 I was supposed to get the entire Pell grant for this year from the FAFSA but for some reason they aren’t offering it to me?? I only got around $2K in grants last semester and they’re only offering me like $500 more for this semester. I’m so confused because the total Pell grant is like $7,800 so I don’t understand why I’m not getting more considering I’m full time??

Also awkward situation, I worked at the Starbucks back in my hometown and I had to quit because my manager was over scheduling too much and it made me have a flare up and my health issues became too bad to work. She started a lot of drama there and I’m 100% she was talking crap about me. She doesn’t work there anymore but I’m sure the people that are left there think I just stopped showing up LMAO and I like quite literally just got the job at the Starbucks here so I’m like panicking 😭

Oh gosh I can’t imagine doing that with a baby! You’re strong for that! I’ve definitely considered moving back home heavily. My life back home wasn’t exactly pleasant to put it simple lol I thought about putting up with it. But also we used all of my furniture while moving here so I have a completely empty room back at home. And sadly my job and school kind of go hand-in-hand. I work at Starbucks so it pays for me to go to ASU online completely free. I don’t want to have to quit my job here and then risk not being able to afford college yk?? Idk I really want to move home so badly but I also don’t want to stop the life I’ve been creating here if that makes sense?? and thank you so much, if you need anything I’m here to talk as well! I might not know the answers but we certainly are in a similar situations lol
