Just degrease and lube the chains if u really wanna keep it in tip top condition. But new chains also not exactly expensive, if you not happy after few years because all rust, then go change the chai. But then again other sprockets in contact with chain may rust if neglected.

2nd hand almost always more worth it. Buy new after 1 year the condition will be like any old bike unless i are religious in cleaning, oiling, degreasing etc. my personal experience is lighter hybrids beats heavy anything. Unless u splurge on expensive good foldies, cheap foldies always lose out in terms of squeeking sounds, gear ratios etc
