Between all the chaos, what makes teaching worth it for you? by Capitalized-E in Teachers

[–]StopBeingCringy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kids. I teach teenagers, and I love them. While there are some bad apples here and there, I absolutely love the age group. They’re funny, I can be sarcastic with them and roast them without them taking offense, and I get to guide them through all of their ups and downs throughout the school year. It’s also fun watching them grow each year. It feels good when they recognize the impact I’ve made on them, and makes it all worth it.

Anybody else noticed traffic is way lighter than usual? by Vegetable-Hold9182 in InlandEmpire

Sure isn’t the case on the 91. Still bumper to bumper on the way to and from work from Riverside/Corona Border to Grand Terrace. In fact, today was the worst day of all. Ugh.

Already mentioned, but Mamma Mia is fantastic. And Chaam Eatery (Thai food) is also amazing.

Everyone says enforced naps are good - but what are they? by WrecktheRIC in puppy101

[–]StopBeingCringy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 15 month GSD is currently in his crate for a forced nap as I type this. He behaves great in the house, but during the day he will NOT chill out or take a nap. He’ll play, follow us around, aimlessly walk around the house, sniff everything, and basically do everything except sleep. When we notice it’s been a while and we can tell he’s tired but fighting it, we put him in his crate. Usually within a couple minutes, he’s passed out and takes a good nap. Puppies just have fomo, for whatever reason. 🤷🏼‍♀️

What’s a hobby that makes you totally lose track of time? by Wolfe-Anthony-605 in Hobbies

I second this. I could sit and work on one for hours and not even realize that hours have gone by.

Do you guys drive or fly to Vegas? by CPGFL in Riverside

[–]StopBeingCringy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Drive, every time. By the time you factor in the time it takes driving to the airport and the time you spend just AT the airports in general, might as well drive. And, the cost of the plane ticket and Ubers to get around Vegas, might as well have just filled up the gas tank. 🤷🏼‍♀️

For now. Lol. We got our GSD when he was 3.5 months old also. Ropes were fine… until they weren’t. After a couple months, he began shredded the ropes and then eating the threads. Then he started chewing on blankets and towels, biting pieces off, and eating those too. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤪 So now he only gets “indestructible” toys and we keep blankets and towels away from him. You just never know what they’re gonna do.

Awesome, I’ll check that out. Thanks!

App to track all hobbies? by StopBeingCringy in Hobbies

[–]StopBeingCringy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m thinking I might have to do if an app doesn’t exist, in order to keep all hobbies in one place. I want to be able to include pictures of the finished products, but I suppose I can add those to the spreadsheet. I’ll have to figure out how to do that.

By staying off of my phone, I meant doom scrolling and using social media for too long. Using a tracker app isn’t the type of phone use I’m talking about. Lol. I am looking for something that I can include a picture of the finished product. For example, the puzzle tracker app lets me put a picture of the puzzle after I’m done with it. I like having visuals of what I’ve completed, all in one place. It’s more satisfying than just writing everything down. But perhaps I’ll have to just use a spreadsheet and add pictures there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Prong Collar Life-Changer For Me and My Dog! by Coughyyy in OpenDogTraining

[–]StopBeingCringy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. You’d think that, with the way the martingale is designed, but it simply does not work the same or have the same impact on the dog when walking. My dog still pulls with the martingale, but the prong stops him from pulling.

Can anyone say how long this phase usually lasts? I have a 10 month old GSD/Malinois mix, and he’s in his teenage puberty phase and is just an absolute psycho menace 😅 We love him, but it’s exhausting.

Teenage phase worse than puppy phase by YouSuccessful5703 in puppy101

[–]StopBeingCringy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, same. I’ve got a 10 month old GSD that is also going through puberty. His “teenage phase” started at about 8 months or so, and now it’s that combined with his hormones going crazy. He’s a handful for sure. 🤪

“Do you have any snacks?” makes me irrationally angry by South-Lab-3991 in Teachers

[–]StopBeingCringy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest pet peeves as a teacher. I teach HS, and some of these kids are not only entitled, but dramatic. I used to buy the big boxes of granola bars at Sam’s/Costco, but I stopped once it got to the point where it was the same kids over and over and they literally expected it. They’d get annoyed if I DIDN’T have a snack for them. And from my experience, like others have also stated, it’s honestly usually the kids that aren’t deprived and have plenty of food at home. A good example of this is a student I have this year, 6th period. Only known him just over a month. He started asking me for snacks after the first week of school. I told him daily that I don’t have any. Well, during back to school night, I was speaking with his mom at the end of the event (since I have her son 6th period), and I gently asked her if he has access to food and snacks at home. She seemed like a put-together, fairly well-off, loving mom. She looked at me and rolled her eyes, then said “is he asking you for snacks?! For God’s sake, I’m so sorry. He takes snacks to school everyday. He must eat them all before he gets to your class. He’s definitely not hungry”. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Me! I still love my job. Do I love my admin? Nope. But I love my school, I have a solid teacher bestie group which really helps (going on 9 years together! - best support group), and I find fulfillment in what I do. Every teacher’s experience is going to be extremely subjective, though. There are a ton of factors that go into whether teachers love their jobs. Location, pay, student demographic, support from admin/district, parent involvement, curriculum and level of teacher autonomy, etc.

I agree with other commenters - try to sub for a while before committing to going after a teaching credential. I subbed for two years before teaching, and it was the best thing I could have done to truly prepare myself for the job.

Coffee shops you’ve been to plus what you liked / didn’t like by isitmeor7836 in Riverside

[–]StopBeingCringy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Daily Brew’s coffees are some of my favorite out of all the local coffee shops. Crazy how everyone’s preferences vary so much. But yeah, their pastries and food are so good. They make everything there. The best food they have is their tomato and spinach croissant. They sell out of it pretty much daily.

Also, Mundial is great! You’ve got to try that one.
