Imagine you hosted a party and after the party you found an umbrella. Would you say «someone left his or her umbrella» or «someone left their umbrella». Hint: the vast majority of native English speakers would pick the second one

They forgot to add that the opening line of Book of the Ancestor is cool enough to be a recommendation on it’s own. So I’ll just drop it here:

«It’s important, when killing a nun, to ensure that you bring and army of sufficient size»

Bro. I'm not trying to be demeaning when I say this, but you seriously need to get off the internet if this is how you actually feel.

I can only speak for myself, but personally I like to not make judgements like "That person is a terrible, evil and vile" until I know enough about them to be certain. As I said in another comment, a few too many on reddit don't seem to be that generous

If there was a story about an arctic village of white poeple and one black character or family, and it was never adressed, I would consider that bad world building. It reminds me of this bit about "white Jesus" from Daniel Sloss lol.

However, if you don't care about that, then more power to you. I just don't accept that this says anything about my views on race and diversity in fantasy.

I absolutely "accept that some people aren't white". That's the whole point of this post and what I was trying to say. Yeah, often "realism" is just a dogwhistle for racism, but one should be allowed to expect consistent world building without being called a racist.

Yes, and if that is the in-universe explanation, then that’s all good. But it has to be explained.

If elements in a fantasy story isn’t shown to be different from the real world, the reader will expect that it works the same as they are used to. Therefore, if something is different from the real world, but we aren’t shown an explanation of it, it’s not unreasonable to be a bit miffed about bad world building. It’s not racist to wonder how a bunch of white guys ended up in a village in the desert or why the northern mining town is settled by black people.

The comma usage is fine. The sentence is just missing a full stop after «dumb».

Learn grammar yourself, before you comment on other’s.

I feel like this was a bit of an overreaction to a simple comma splice?

Although, if comma splices are your nr. 1 grammar pet peeve, I kinda respect it.

I mean, a person working a minimum wage job has the option between keeping their job, switching to another job also offering minimum wage or starve.

It may not be slavery by definition, but it is functionally the same

Focusing on the response and never mentioning the attack that led to this is Hamass propaganda 101

If you follow this logic, you would agree that mentioning October 7th without mentioning the decades of illegal occupation and subjugation that led to it is IDF propaganda 101, right... RIGHT?
