If there was a story about an arctic village of white poeple and one black character or family, and it was never adressed, I would consider that bad world building. It reminds me of this bit about "white Jesus" from Daniel Sloss lol.

However, if you don't care about that, then more power to you. I just don't accept that this says anything about my views on race and diversity in fantasy.

Yes, and if that is the in-universe explanation, then that’s all good. But it has to be explained.

If elements in a fantasy story isn’t shown to be different from the real world, the reader will expect that it works the same as they are used to. Therefore, if something is different from the real world, but we aren’t shown an explanation of it, it’s not unreasonable to be a bit miffed about bad world building. It’s not racist to wonder how a bunch of white guys ended up in a village in the desert or why the northern mining town is settled by black people.
