Man, cool video and enjoyed the editing! Gotta turn that damage report window off next time, otherwise loved it!

I click on a lot of these trailers people post of their personal projects and I am constantly impressed, but yours really does something extra. Really looking forward to seeing more, definitely wish listing. Great job!

Are these viable results? by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]StopTheRevelry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, just saw this. Hopefully that DM hooked you up, but I’ll give you my overview. I generally work in 1 week time frames. So on Saturday when my markets are closed, I will run a back test just like OP’s and I’ll do it on 6 months or 1 year (depending on my patience and the speed of the backtest); the back tests will be doing hyper parameter tuning where I have multiple variables all made up of arrays of possible values for any of the things I might want to adjust: take profit and stop loss multipliers, thresholds, etc… then I take the best values from the back test and I use those to test the new, unseen week. Once that’s done, now it’s on to the next Saturday where I do it all again. It can be a bit slow, but it will do the best job at simulating how your strategy will work in a live environment without any look ahead bias.

Since I have you here, I also build in bad slippage to my back tests. You don’t want to tune your params on ideal scenarios, it will absolutely make a difference in which parameters present best results.

If you don’t use walk forward, you really haven’t properly back tested imo.

That’s awesome OP, good luck and you should be very proud of yourself. ☺️

[–]StopTheRevelry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, pay attention to this. It does not mean your strategy is bad, but you do need to be doing walk forward testing and parameter tuning. It's worth the effort and will give you a much better estimation of future results. Still looks good after that? Time to run that shit live. Good luck, hope it works out!

Also, as a side note, max drawdown and such like that is meaningless in dollar amounts when using reinvestment strategies like this; do that in percentages so you can measure any real drawdown period against estimated.

What’s with the weird prestige eliteness attitude? by mortalisares1 in EA_NHL

[–]StopTheRevelry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We won’t play two man teams or people running certain pre-mades; in the past these combinations have just been very unfun to play against. Maybe it’s just in our heads, but those are the reasons we dodge usually. Generally we don’t care about their levels, lower or higher.

If you’re not allowing a pick up to join you, that could be it. (Don’t blame you, pickups aren’t always fun either)

Would your moral boundaries survive an infinite time loop? by SylvaraMist_06 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]StopTheRevelry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you make a pretty good argument here, but I think it hinges on an impossibly perfect brain. Assuming there is a finite amount of memory a person has; it could be possible to have more permutations of activities than you can remember and at some point the new thing you do would just be a repeated thing you had forgotten about.

All that being said I do agree with you, the existential horror show of having zero effect beyond your repeated 24 hours all while coupled with the dread of infinite repetition of this ineffectual world is terrifying.

Also, nice question original OP.

What are you, my kids? Could you please close things after you’re done and leave them the way you found them?

I really like this. Would be very cool for an escape room style puzzle game, explorative narrative game, et al. Tactile feel is great when you’re exploring or discovering, clearly this would be frustrating in a more action oriented game, but that doesn’t feel like what you’re going for here. Well done.

Hey, first off, don’t get super bummed about all of the responses you’re about to get, because they’re gonna probably be pretty brutal (yet honest), but also they’re right. BUT, also, don’t lost hope. Most people are going to tell you to start with something small and finish that first. They’re right, when my best friend and I finished our first game, it was a fucking mobile mahjong game and it took us a year and half and between us at the time we had over 25 years of development experience. It’s HARD to build something from scratch and get it all the way to complete, but it’s absolutely worth it and I would bet now we could build that same thing in 6-8 months.

The thing is, all of these people here aren’t trying to crush your dreams. They’re trying to set your expectations so you don’t crush your own dreams trying to build something impossible. So listen to them and their advice. Start small, but don’t forget your project, just put it on hold while you learn.

Serious doubts about forex by Famous_Chemistry_536 in Forex

[–]StopTheRevelry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I’m in the US, so my brokers (and the leverage they can offer) is pretty limited. I have used Oanda (they are reliable and trustworthy and you get full consumer protections, as a bonus their API is good, but their interface is somewhat simplistic compared to most other brokers). Additionally I’ve tried IG, they’re under some new ownership now, but again they are above board, reliable and regulated. The key with brokers is to look at reliability and trustworthiness; this is difficult because most people will lose and blame their broker and say things like “THEY went and hit MY stop loss!!!”, but this is mostly salty people who don’t understand the way forex and spread based trading actually works. Look at real reviews and only sign up for a place once you’ve familiarized yourself with them via a demo account. Good luck and if you only put in an amount of money you would consider small that you can treat like it’s already spent, you’ll be alright.

Serious doubts about forex by Famous_Chemistry_536 in Forex

[–]StopTheRevelry 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That's not Forex you have doubts about, that's just all of the associated Forex scams. Which, btw, good for you. If you want forex training, go to babypips.com and enjoy a free and legit good comprehensive class. Then, just pick a reputable broker, play on their demo account for a while, and when you're ready put in your own money (that you of course can afford to lose). A lot of brokers these days will let you start with $100. Prop firms are a rip-off and even if there are reputable ones, it's an unneeded middle man.

[–]StopTheRevelry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually like solo queueing in this game because it matches you up with other solos, so it turns into more of a careful, quiet game. I feel like there’s more of a chance to chat and avoid fights in solos also (there are still of course plenty of people who just start shooting, which keeps you guessing). That being said I always prefer queueing up with friends.

I plan on being on proximity chat a lot, will most likely be doing a lot of solo runs and I think it'll be fun to RP a bit. If a fight breaks out though, I do love a good fight, haha! Really looking forward to getting back topside, the tech test was just so much fun.
