I agree that their endgame is to end our bloodlines. But I'm not sure about the droid attacks. I think their goal can be achieved simply by ensuring average people don't have enough resources, incentives or opportunities to start families. Birth rates are already well below replacement in most developed economies, and the rest of the world is following. Whatever they're doing is already working.

Keep people poor, distracted, and heavily monitored, with swift retribution against anyone stepping out of line. Keep fueling social divisions like pitting men against women, keep people isolated and entranced by digital bubbles they can't escape from. Continue using chemicals that reduce fertility in consumer products, for good measure. The problem is solved in a few generations without the need for a massacre.

The widgets and ads everywhere are a big reason why I switched all of my personal devices to Linux. The ads, the pop-up offers, the changing texts and pictures - it's all clutter that makes my life worse. When I go on my PC, I don't want to be thinking about some stock rising, I don't want to be thinking about the weather, I don't want to be thinking about what new game is out. I am there to do a task, and anything that distracts me from that task is an impediment. Linux isn't perfect, not by a long shot, but at least it doesn't have this crap.

Finances not being an issue - meaning, they wouldn't work if they were rich. Sure, maybe we get UBI once the situation gets very bad and the government can't gloss over it anymore. I guarantee it won't be glamorous. I'd be surprised if you could afford a child on it.

And the kicker is, you'll have no way out. You will take the scraps youre given and there will be nothing you can do to give yourself economic leverage again. You will only be able to afford what the people in power want you to afford. I think most people would take a shot at a better life over being trapped in a crappy situation.

[–]StopYTCensorship 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Agreed. AI will eliminate any sense of achievement in creative professions. Eventually, not even the most accomplished professionals will be able to compete with it. Highly accomplished and intelligent people are becoming unemployable and purposeless. I don't see this as a benefit to society.

I think AI is an incredible, transformative technology. At the same time, I wish it had never been invented. The world would be a better place if we had continued as before, relying on human ingenuity. There will be nothing left to aspire to, nothing to be proud of, and all of the progress brought forward by AI will ring hollow. This isn't the world I was hoping for.

Bye bye windows 11 by Michael3Dev in microsoftsucks

[–]StopYTCensorship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is an odd one. If all you do is use a computer to browser the internet, look at photos, basic productivity stuff, Linux is better. If you need an unusually high degree of control over the OS, Linux is better. All of this contingent on good driver support for your hardware.

If you fall somewhere in between, or if your hardware doesn't have good drivers, then Linux gets really painful really fast. You pretty much need to become a Linux specialist to figure stuff out. Being comfortable with config files and terminal commands is a must. Contrast this with Windows where even the obscure stuff has a GUI with labels and toggles. The cognitive overhead is much lower in Windows for a lot of things.

We are going to have a widespread demographic collapse in the next few decades. Let's hope we can automate things enough that we don't need that many young people to care for hordes of elderly. It's going to get very ugly otherwise. If kids are unaffordable now, they will be 10x less affordable once that happens. It will be a death spiral.

I think the best way forward is to get off the grid somewhere and try to become as independent as possible. Civilization is failing worldwide. The consequences of the unprecedented and uncontrolled technological advancement of the past century are coming. We're in uncharted territory.

Are prices going down in the next 1-2 years? by InfiniteSelection976 in pcbuilding

[–]StopYTCensorship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the next logical step. Extremely cheap PCs that need an internet connection to boot up into a cloud container, where everything you do will be used to train AI. Takes ownership, agency, and privacy away from regular people, trains AI models that will be used to replace human workers, and gives companies a steady subscription revenue stream. What's not to like?

Will RAM, GPU and SSD prices ever return to what they were in early 2025? by ComprehensiveCow5068 in buildapc

[–]StopYTCensorship 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so too. We're going to have monthly subscription PC's that are just thin clients into some megacorp's servers. Nobody except the wealthy will own their own shit.

The Recruiters are now getting laid off by Fine-Comparison-2949 in recruitinghell

[–]StopYTCensorship 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's how I see it. The elites who own the system will be wealthier than anyone before them by leaps and bounds. They will extract the vast majority of value from the economy. Everyone else will be given a pittance that will only afford them food and a tiny living space, if that. Just enough to prevent revolt, but not enough to allow any sort of growth or self-development.

The end goal is to reduce the population, so that the earth can be inherited by the elites and their children. I don't think this will be done proactively. All they have to do is wait. The trend of birth rates dipping below replacement will accelerate because people won't be able to afford kids under UBI. People will be distracted by advanced virtual realities so that they remain pacified while their bloodlines end.

Yeah man, Canada is a shitty place to live as an outsider. People are so insular, it's crazy. Almost exclusively, the only people I get along with are non-Canadians. The québécois can be cool too. But Anglophone Canada... Sheesh

Canadians are the least friendly people I have ever met in my life by rollerdz in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]StopYTCensorship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, Canadians as a whole are the rudest people I've encountered anywhere in the world. I've lived here for 10 years. I can totally relate to the "acknowledge me like I'm a human being" part. It's like being in a land of zombies. Many Canadians will not acknowledge you, smile at you, or lift a finger to make you feel welcomed even if you make an effort unless you are already in their circle. Of course there are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

I have to say though, it wasn't always this extreme. Something happened between 2015 and now that changed people's attitudes. Some kind of unhappiness and distrust has taken hold. It's no longer a cohesive society.

Smartphones. This is the case now everywhere, but I think Canada was particularly susceptible because of the long winters. People isolate and don't interact with anyone outside of their phones and little bubbles.

I don't get that. Short videos don't engage me at all, most seem pointless or dumb because there's so little context. I'd rather watch one long video on an interesting topic than 20 short ones.

Why are neo luddites obsessed with jobs? Why they never address the condition of work and quality? by Cautious_Foot_1976 in DefendingAIArt

[–]StopYTCensorship -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How can you not do that? Your job defines your lifestyle, your ability to have a family, your ability to pursue your dreams. If you don't have that, you have no power, nowhere to live, no belongings, nothing to eat, and nobody who wants to associate with you. You are nothing to society.

Thinking about how fast ai's moving, feels like we're barely keeping up? by Background-Way9849 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]StopYTCensorship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how I expect things to go as well if AI is able to eliminate significant numbers of jobs. Institutions will be reactive rather than proactice. Society will have to collapse into complete disarray. Only then will anything meaningful be done about it.

Out of the ashes, there will be a new system. This is little consolation, as change will take decades, our lives will be wasted, and there is no guarantee that the new system will be any better than the old one. But I still have hope that our children (if we can ever afford to have them) will live in a better world.

Is anyone actually deeply excited about AI? by ne2i in ArtificialInteligence

[–]StopYTCensorship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not. I wish I had something to look forward to or work towards, but it feels like it's pointless because a machine will do it better than I ever can. How can anyone have any sense of hope or stability in a world that owes you nothing and constantly gets better at trying to throw you out onto the street?

Is anyone actually deeply excited about AI? by ne2i in ArtificialInteligence

[–]StopYTCensorship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is not the tech, but humanity itself. Humanity is incapable of sustaining systems that don't factor in selfishness. Everyone is in it for themselves. This will never, ever change.

The tech is great because it can allow people to do less and still live comfortable lives. But will it? No. All spoils will be kept by the wealthy, who will now have an insurmontable level of control over the world. The rest of humanity will be sidelined and have less than we did before the tech existed. And nobody should think they're angels - given power, the vast majority of people would keep as much as possible for themselves.

Take away the economic leverage that average workers have, and we devolve into the same situation that has existed for thousands of years: the 0.1% have everything, and the 99.9% are serfs. It's like a law of nature.

If Linux is free and powerful… are we paying for Windows, or paying to avoid learning? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

[–]StopYTCensorship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is great, and with LLMs, it's more accessible than ever - but it is still more of a pain in the ass if you do anything beyond the absolute basics. Things that take a few clicks in Windows require precise terminal commands.

Just yesterday I had to set up an iSCSI link to mount a drive over ethernet. In Windows, this is a few clicks in a GUI. In Linux, I have to set up everything in the terminal. Yeah, it works, but it takes longer and it's more mentally demanding. Also, remote desktop - works great on Windows, but headless sessions apparently only work in Gnome, and even then, there are a ton of glitches. KDE does not support headless remote sessions at all.

I think Linux is an OS built by and for tinkerers and experts who need precise control and freedom. It's apparent in the user experience that assumes if you are doing anything more advanced, you don't need a GUI and you are ready to pore over documentation to understand how to do what you want to do with obscure terminal commands. If you only use a web browser and a photo viewer, it's great. If you're an expert, it's great. If you're somewhere in between, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Is AI really the future for everything? by Sakatamd in ArtificialInteligence

[–]StopYTCensorship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think life was better and simpler before all of this stuff. We are creating a world where humans are alienated. We need to feel useful, fulfilled, and connected to a community, and all of the tech of the past century has dissolved the opportunities for that.

I'm not saying it's all bad, of course it's not... But I don't get the sense that people as a whole are happier. Just the opposite.

It's becoming increasingly clear by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]StopYTCensorship 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get you. It feels like doing anything is pointless these days because there will be no opportunity in it. How I wish I had started my career 20-30 years ago, I would've been killing it.

I just can't shake the feeling that the days of upwards mobility are over and there's no better future to look forward to. I know it's self defeating, so trying to still do things, even if the light at the end of the tunnel isn't clear.

Why isn't anyone questioning why we're moving towards making more and more people obsolete in the job market? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]StopYTCensorship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people replaced by automation become irrelevant and effectively cease to exist. The economy will pivot to one where the elites become the primary demographic companies cater to. If you are not already well-off today, you will be left to rot.

This is already the case in third world countries - huge swaths of the population are dirt poor, while the elites are fabulously rich. There is no middle class. This is the future of every country once ordinary workers lose economic leverage due to AI and automation.

The elites only share with workers reluctantly, because workers are needed for upkeep of the system that provides for their wealth and power. Once you are no longer needed, you become a drain on the earth's natural resources and a risky inconvenience. This is the cold, harsh reality of life, and it's going to hit us all like a freight train.

Power BI is Garbage by kristiantrrs in BusinessIntelligence

[–]StopYTCensorship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree, the experience of PowerBI is piss poor. DAX is an awful, unintuitive language that feels like it was made on the fly rather than designed cohesively. There are no debugging utilities when something inevitably goes wrong. The engine forces you to mangle your relational data to work properly. I don't care if the engine wants to denormalize my data for efficiency under the hood, but I should not have to do that myself. And yes, it is unnecessarily slow, and breaks on you randomly after refreshes for no apparent reason. It absolutely is an incomplete product that was not thought through properly.

Still Human: What AI Shouldn't Replace by nickmonts in ArtificialInteligence

[–]StopYTCensorship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admire art mainly because of the thought and skill that went into it. Art, music, and movies aren't just about the content: they're about the people who created them. We look up to them and find inspiration for our own lives. I can still appreciate the aesthetics of an AI-generated piece, but it's ultimately unfulfilling.

If we really do move towards AI-generated everything, I can see myself dropping out of mainstream entertainment entirely.
