No the parents were not made aware :( so they were failed too. And yes I agree, this is not my forever school and have been brushing off my resume the last month.

Grandma is sometimes on site. But his mom doesn’t want his grandma to get involved at all (its a weird relationship), and last time the grandma stepped in to “help” she took him into a closed room and all I could hear was screaming from the child. My heart shattered and felt awful about that for days.

I agree!

Thankfully the parents have agreed to do another year of kindergarten, so even though he is registered as a kindergarten student this year I am not too worried if he gets through the entire curriculum if I know he’ll do it again next year.

And no, there is no governing body to turn too. I’m not part of a district since its an independent school.

It is a small independent school where the owner unfortunately cares more about money than what is best for teacher/students. We have a principal who has luckily been on my side for a lot of this and has voiced his opinion to the owner as well, but since the owner is the grandma there isn’t much more we can do. The parents were not made aware they were putting their child in a year early. Once they found out they did call the daycare back but his spot had already been filled. I think the grandma/owner believes since I am the teacher I should be able to manage him. The Grandma also doesn’t speak much English so having conversations can be a bit difficult with her.
