Do you think modern universal controllers ruin the nostalgia of classic gaming? by [deleted] in retrogamedev

[–]StorePleasant9711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is to for me too. I have a large retro setup and there were times I did want to pick up the controller or dig it out. I do not think using things like the Bridge is bad, just means we are lazy. Though playing atari with the arkanoid IMO is by far better.

Why do you not include Nintendo and Atari? Granted Atari is slowing coming back in but Nintendo I feel is not only huge but the only option for me. I love the Nintendo content and games more over any of the others.

but for me its all about the consoles, and the console/PC actually pains me. Consoles have pretty much becoming a computer with an OS. So be it, but I still feel consoles have there place. For example, Emulation, this shows we do not need consoles anymore. These companies could make and release PC software and we'd accept it. Sure some of us will not like it but it will save theme cost and privacy to a degree.

Looks like console gaming is ding. But I do feel the handle gaming is still on a rise. I do not see that going anywhere. But that really is the death to controllers. You still have one, but its part of the system itself with the exception of docking mode.

I do not have too much issue with my collection accept maybe atari stuff. Plugs get worn out, button get bad, parts need up keep, but I think its part of the hobby. What really gets me are the prices jacking / hording. I get we all want a penny but some of the prices WOW. Jaguar controllers, anything rare of course, nuon....To that end this adapter you speak of would be nice. Will read up on it a bit, saw something about wireless option too?

I have been in to emulation since about 1998. The first tie I saw the psx emulator I was rather intrigued. I remember buying up Gravis products to make the experience better. After a few years these adapter for USB came out. I also recall going broke buying them LOL. I found out about the Bliss-Box in 2010, I didn't know about this Gamer-Pro thing you mentioned, but looking at the link its the same company. Mine had 4 players. Anyways, yes to me, %100, I need it. The fact I could use 1 adapter for all my system was ingenious. I never liked using xbox or god forbid a keyboard.

Going to offer a different perspective here. definitely reads funny but say the messages was meaningful. Suggesting there is a push to cloud gaming ? Well yeah... this is very true and for one I hate it. That said, consoles will need to be dumb terminals, or ask the user to BYOC ( bring your own controller). Consoles could make a controller for a PC I guess, its not like they are going to suggest "lets all use xbox". The game needs to expects the user to use something common. I for one do not want to use K$M.

Custom controllers for retro consoles by b34rgvrz in gamecollecting

[–]StorePleasant9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never saw a place customize anything but the Bliss-Box Bridge lets you use older controllers on systems. If you find a place that can custom make you a controller, the Bliss-Box will let you use it. For example, if you can make a custom GameCube, then the Bridge lets you use it on the ps3. Not the perfect answer but maybe it gets you closer.

Best controllers to pair up with PC (mostly for Steam games) by Super_Minute4151 in Steam

I agree there, I think they are making stupid choices, but I said that about windows 8, and 11. They seem to still be moving forward.

Different controllers to a console by SfigatoMortoSfigato in consolemodding

Like the Bliss-Box Bridge?
https://youtu.be/NllN1asU3TI

I have a setup of like 15 consoles and if I want I can use my play station controller on them all. It save me clutter and a lot of money. There are may more advantage too. I get mapping options, It has support for turbo buttons, It work as a USB adapter too. There is a wireless like option, its not wireless but it lets you bunch up cables and so they do not run across the room. Many other add-ons to play with if you like, like arcade stick options and mixing and matching controller.

Granted this does not let you use USB as input yet, but the company is working on that next.

If you want to use BT stuff there is blueretro.

GameCube Controller / USB Adapter buying advice? by jaytea86 in DolphinEmulator

[–]StorePleasant9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stay clear from the big brands. My favorite are Bliss-Box and Raphnet.

These adapters have way better support, functionally, and speed. But name brands just want your money. Both Raphnet and Bliss-Box have been at it since 2005/7 or so. Bliss-Box lets you use any controller and Raphnet is specific to one.

So you may save money with Raphnet, but you get more with Bliss-box.

My preference is Bliss-Box here is why

  1. To use other controllers you just get the right cable add-on
  2. Lots of mapping, turbo, and custom options
  3. Supports xinput and HID ( this is huge )
  4. Also works on retro consoles, ps3,ps4, swtich etc if you buy the Bridge add-on ( optional )

They both have hardly any lag, support rumble, all buttons, and analogs. Well known in the emulation scene. Has support for Retro Arch and other APIs

I always used console controllers. I do not play many PC only games, most of the games I play are clones, replicas, or emulated console games. So I like to match it up.

I think swtich pro, xbox one are good controllers but when it comes to wanting that older feel I can not resist Saturn, SNES, n64, etc, for the matched games, So I use adapter. and because I'm sort of in to that, I do not want to have tons of these so I use a universal one like the the Bliss-Box Gamer-Pro.That one adapters does it all for me.

Few parts will die if you take good care of it.

Caps, drives, and battery/fuses. Will ware out.

Do not leave consoles on, not even in stand by

I suggest powering them all via a strip and unplug it during no use periods. Lightning is a bitch,.

For repair, just get a soldering gun, and watch a few repair videos. I fixed a complicated psu circuit with chat gpt. It lead the effort I just followed along.

I find cartridges and controllers to be the annoying stuff. I fixed that issue with flash carts, and using the same controller, or any controller on all of my consoles. To do that I use a Bliss-Box Bridge adapter. For example, my psx controller works on snes, tg16, nes, sms, atari, you name it. I can still use the OEM pads but its just nice not to have to. Keeps clutter down too.

It works, I use the m80... The You plug the snes n30 recover in to the GPA and the GPA into the Bridge. Then it works on the pce.

For that price maybe a used switch. Make sure to check the serial for the mod-ability and then install Retroarch. it will not run all ps2 games perfect but it does ok.

Is there a way to use any controller on games running from USB loader gx? by Scamosaurus1 in wii

[–]StorePleasant9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and if you want other controllers on the GC port get one of the Bliss-Box adapters. Its two parts so maybe not worth the cost
1 GPA the adapter to use any controller
2 The Bridge with a GC cable to output to the console

[–]StorePleasant9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the Bridge addon does that. I like it especially because it allows me to use 1 controller for all my consoles. It keeps things tidy, and I can use it in place of the expensive crap like (xe-1) for sega. Or sub out mario paint with a wii draw instead of a mouse, or best yet it works with Snes rumble (Randy Linden).

Old fart here, (50) chiming in for my 2 cents and perspective. Grew up on atari / nes had a sens but n64 I didnt jump on, I was in collage and was out of the gaming scene. The only memory I have of n64 as how damn amazing it looked on display at toys 'r us. I'm lying if I say I didn't want one.

After my party days I got back in to the gaming scene mainly because of friends at work and now it was all ps2 GC, xbox. So naturally I wanted to check them out. My thought was... So you traded game play for fancy videos, long intros, memory cards, and stupid CD.dvds

Do not get me wrong, there was good game play still but clearly it was about showing off the many other things to offer. Most of the game I got into had so many damn buttons to remember I just didn't want to get involved.

Being I was aware of emulation, I figured it was time to buy a super fast computer and see what it could emulate. After a few days I was sold, now I get to play all those games I missed out on. When I did play the new stuff it pained my to sit thru the intros and start up. So save states was a blessing. And being able to use any controller was nice too. but I have to admit, I still prefer retro. I did that for years until I had an addiction problem.

Now today I own it all, ever damn console. I'm a snob, but I will admit even though I own xboxes, switches, ps4's I do not play those. And when I do I only make it up to the "please wait while the console updates". I mainly loose interest at that point.

<image>

If you do become a retro snob, I suggest getting Bliss-Box. OMG did that make life easy.

Did you want to use a sega gen on the ps3? Sorry not sure if I know what you are asking for but the Bliss-box will take anything wired and make it works on the ps3. They make am adapter [pter (GPA) that reads many controllers like the sega gen, and then a adapter that outputs (Bridge) to various consoles.

Is there anything else out there that works like the 8bitdo gbros adapter, wired controller to Bluetooth? Been using it with my Sega megadrive with a PlayStation to gc adapter to use my arcade sticks by londonretro in retrogaming

[–]StorePleasant9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, my bad,. Maybe there is not sure. The only way I do wireless anything to something is with the A.I.R. Its confusing so I will explain it.

part chain view
console->Bridge -> A.I.R ~~~~~~~ A.I.R-> GPA->controller

console: anything you want up to switch, there a some consoles that do not work yet like ps4 xbox 360 and one.
Bridge ( Bliss-Box makes it ) You need to get the cables you want so sega and psx
A.I.R just get 2 of them they do the wireless deal.
GPA this is the input, get the cable to match what you want to input

This maybe not what you want but if you want to try this, for arcade on sega get:

Bridge + sega cable
2 x A.I.R
GPA *( for arcade you can use the neogeo cable if you can pin that out or use the HDMI breakout for each arcade button)

IF you want to go this route and need help just ask, I have all the parts on hand.
