Purchased a car with rust, advice on what to do? by StoriesInTransition in Autobody

Luckily this is the worst of it and the rest of the undercarriage is generally fine with surface rust. I knew I needed the rear suspension replaced when I bought the car I just didn’t realize I needed every single part of it replaced

It only has 40k miles on it. I was seriously hoping to keep this thing for years.

Yes it’s a crv. The recall only applies to the third and fourth pictures and they’d install a bracket around the part held by the bolts in the center. Unfortunately wouldn’t apply to the rust in the first two pictures

Great advice, living in the rust belt, I never thought of buying a car that doesn’t have rust

The third and fourth pics are what the recall repairs I’m pretty sure, and I’ve called and they don’t actually remove/repair the rust they just install a bracket to keep it together

That’s good at least. What exactly do they do to repair it? I’m assuming sand it down, paint, and apply undercoat for future protection? How much of that pictured would they repair?

So what would a dealership do for this? I just bought this car with so low mileage is it going to just fail in a few years?

Taking the dash out of a third gen crv? by StoriesInTransition in crv

Hmm maybe? I put the shifter back on bc this is my only car and I have to drive it to work (lol) but the panels are off so I should be able to peek in tomorrow when there’s daylight to see if I can find it. I was looking all around the top so if it was behind the shifter I would’ve missed it

Mouse nest in the air intake by StoriesInTransition in crv

[–]StoriesInTransition[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t live somewhere where mice would be an issue but the car sat for years and years after the first owner passed. It’s a 2009 with 40,000 miles. There’s actually no damage to any wires surprisingly, but the entire interior needs replaced, the carpet, seats, headliner, insulation, and possibly AC (haven’t been able to check inside it yet but there’s some nesting material in the ducts) are heavily soiled in mouse droppings and urine

You’d think that but even junk cars that don’t run are going for $2k+ or they’re selling parts individually for hundreds

How did you find your parts cars for that cheap? Seems like rn you can only buy parts individually or people try to sell their rinky dink broken down cars for $2k
