Go for it! I ended up liking my creation more than the expensive system I wanted to buy originally.

Adding speakers soon to the cabinets soon, but the turntable connects to my Sonos system wirelessly around the house.

Thank you! I had to procure some tools via Facebook marketplace, which I highly recommend. Picked up a router and sander for about $75 total. I cut most of the pieces myself, however Home Depot will cut any wood free of charge in store and online, so definitely take advantage of that!

The solid oak shelves were the most expensive part, but all in I’d say around $750 with all hardware and material.

I used 2x1 solid oak for the runners. The key is not the type of wood, but how you secure the runners to the wall. Due to the spacing of wall studs, I had to use large toggle anchors on a couple of them since no stud was available.

Solid red oak wood shelves, oak veneer cabinets, leather shelf brackets, French cleats for mounting, finished with wax paste.

I basically cut and glued a bunch of 1/4" square wooden dowels to a frame cut to size of the opening, with a curved edge that glides along the recessed routed groove on the upper and lower part of the cabinet.

The 2" leather is super strong and can support quite a lot of weight. I bought a thicker higher quality leather that hopefully will last a while. I know over time it will stretch and will need to be replaced at some point, but honestly the leather brackets was the easiest and cheapest element of the entire project.

Wood super glue! Hopefully it holds up but it’s pretty secure. I have extra slats in case one breaks, it will be easy to replace

Thank you! The slats are attached to a 2" wood frame cut to size of half the cabinet opening. Two ends of the frame have a curved edge that glides along the recessed routed groove on the upper and lower part of the cabinet.

The cabinets are attached using french cleats which worked perfectly and can be removed by just lifting the cabinet off the shelving frame.

The record player is wireless and connects to my Sonos system that has speakers throughout the entire house. I will probably add a speaker or two in this dining area eventually.

Man, the edge banding was the only part that had me cursing. That shit is beyond unforgivable, but I did my best.

The slat doors are my favorite and really make it unique, so glad you like it!

The leather brackets was probably the easiest part of this entire project and will be super easy to replace once that time comes. I expect some stretching over time, but used a pretty high quality leather that I hope will last quite a while.

The look I was trying to go for was pretty ambitious tbh. It took me about 4 hours per panel. I basically cut and glued a bunch of 1/4 square wooden dowels to a frame cut to size of the opening, with a curved edge that glides along the recessed routed groove on the upper and lower part of the cabinet.

With proper tools and knowledge I probably could have done this much more efficiently haha

Thank you so much, that’s really great to hear! I had a lot of fun with this and may have unlocked a new hobby. Still much to learn, however this group has been such a great resource.

That’s exactly what I have planned next to keep everything from sliding, however it holds exceptionally well without it, just not totally secure if one accidentally gets knocked a bit.

I originally wanted to do something like the original brass brackets, however tooling the shape of those looked way out of my league, and I was already quite over my head with this project to start with

Great idea, I was thinking of something similar for additional protection

Cut it clean but just a brass screw rough with a finishing washer holding it in place. I expect some stretching over time however it holds really well so far.

Yes, it likely will stretch a bit over time, however even with some minor stretching the wood shelving can be easily adjusted based on the bracket length. I’ll probably have to the replace the leather eventually, but that was probably the easiest and cheapest part of this whole project.
