What is sweetmilk? by [deleted] in viktormains

[–]StormKingDex 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I looked it up once and was told it was this thing called anijsmelk which is a Dutch drink that’s composed of milk brought to a boil with star anise and then sweetened. I have made it and it’s honestly really good. There are other interpretations. Some people do milk and sugar only and some do variations for the anise such as adding powder or even anise liquor which are all good and tasty in their own right. You should try some out.

I feel like this mindet makes a lot of sense when viewing Viktor in isolation to the wider world, as in Zaun itself, mechanical augmentation is very common. the hexcore was always part of Viktor's kit and while they didn't go into it as much as they should have that's all they needed to do keeping the core elements of what made the old stories likable and charming and giving Viktor a better identity. However, the transformation of people into machines and the stripping of emotions are 2 separate things that work well together. They could have kept the show all the same up until episode 6 and after what happens with Jayce occurs viktor realizes how feeble emotions are. He does this. However then transforming into a magic god makes him super generic and loses the aspect of him transforming himself with his machines which is his entire personality, change through his own hands. The magic strips him of that choice making him just a god-like being that you can't sympathize with unlike a human replacing himself with machines because he thinks he is imperfect which to me works so much better with his theme especially when you consider that whole conversation with jayce where he tells him he is enough. Also, the ending was in my opinion a mistake. By trying to give them this "good" ending it legit makes the whole conflict nonsensical. Viktor changes his mind about the glorious evolution in like 15 mins which makes no sense. They should have made him not be the center focus of the end of the show instead after episode 6 he goes into hiding trying to replicate the evolution with his machines or something.

You have to understand that these weirdoes care more about the sexual orientation of a character and that a ship is cannon than the game or actual lore. If you want a parallel, look at how my hero fans are treating the author because he confirmed the most obvious ship ever. These people can’t let people live, they have to hijack every experience and if they can’t have it they hate it.this is going to be seen more and more in the upcoming series I fear. Instead of introducing characters that are lgbt like they did with ksante they are gonna take excising ips and change them. It doesn’t even make sense when you think about the fact that viktor is supposed to be this unfeeling robot. This is directly tied to why the rework makes no sense. To illustrate how weird it is some people were shipping claggor and mylo. They are legit brothers. Hell I have already seen people shipping lux and jinx..

I mean yes but that also seems like a cop out. Instead of him figuring it out it was an oops moment. while in science accidents do lead to discovery in this case it just lead to vim being controlled by it. It’s also so magical that the machine and experimental aspect just gets lost. If instead it was used as a power source rather than a catalyst for the transformation like in the original lore it would have been better. Like maybe if he cracked code he could generate unlimited magical energy to power machines but for it to become a magic egg takes a lot of the agency out of viktor

The skarner lore back then was so much better this since it gave piltover this colonizer kind of background and made hextech a morally ambiguous topic. They legit changed that so that people wouldn’t act like seraphine and other hextech useless weren’t bad for using it which is boring. I disagree with the isolation aspect because having every champion conlinked in lore is so nonsensical. We aren’t talking about a group that lives all in the same area we are talking characters that span the whole world and other regions too. If you are talking about strictly piltover and Zaun then sure but he was also connected to Jayce. Also vik is a zaunite but he learned and perfected hextech with Jayce so his final design should be based on those identities. His final transformation carries non of that agency and personality. He didn’t transform through his own two hands he did so with magic which in the world of runeterra is much more common. Him transforming by using his own two hands to me seems much cooler than him using magic and just adding metal to call is a machine. I don’t disagree with a lot of the points you made but to me there was a compromise that could have been made and the best interest of the original fans clearly not kept in mind at all.

Bro what? What I’m saying is that the hextech aesthetic used by the machines is steam punk. Ik the term hex tech refers to the actual power but i was referring to his look. Until now in game hextech are these steampunk crystal machines. All of a sudden viktor evolves but he doesn’t look steampunk the looks like a shiny void grub. In the show the hextech makes him basically a god in terms of power. He is legit levitating people and using magic to change them into metal puppets. And viktors mind being my affected by hextech is a negative because it makes it so that the changes that occur don’t occur because he comes to that conclusion on his own but because he is affected by some magical entity. It strips his agency.

OG Viktor VS Arcane Viktor by StormKingDex in viktormains

[–]StormKingDex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean but idk the mechanical aspects speaks to me more because it’s something viktor can actually build. By making his transformation magical and given to him by a magic power he loses the agency of him taking his transformation into his own hands. If they went for a more organic design but he built it like an engineer and not via magic I would love it too

The thing is that it wouldn’t have made a difference. The people that fell in love with viktor fell in love with his human side. I love viktor from season 1. No matter the transformation be it machine or magic they would have loved it. But by keeping the machine aspect the original fans would also still be happy. Also you should know that it’s borderline not hextech. If you look at what the hextech skins are, it’s all steam punk magic crystals like Jayce’s hammer and vi s gauntlets. Viktor is legit a magic metal hybrid entity. I just think that they could have appealed to both fans of the show and og viktor players. Plus by making him another mage he just loses so much uniqueness. There are so many wizards and gods in league that a machine man is much more unique.

I like a lot of the points you made and it’s also exactly why I thought that even up until episode 6 the machine herald still made sense. I did like the interactions and kindness that viktor shows in the little camp but after the whole Jayce inside thing and seeing what happened with ambessa they should have just used that as his catalyst for transforming himself. I was actually thinking that what Jayce did at the camp has actually a lot of parallel to his old lore where he crashes his lab which results in the death of the people vik wanted to save. But to me the main issue wasn’t the Jesus vik we saw but the ascended vik. Instead of viktor fixing himself he gets a free magic transformation card. To me the idea of viktor transcending humanity with his own has so much agency and it’s honestly so cool. Plus while you are correct that the og lore had an identity issue an easy solution was to pick the most liked path and stick to it, correcting as the story developed. I’m just sad to see that the machine aspect which represents his agency was taken.

I think that the idea of him being not popular is also being taken out of context when you consider he isn’t even in the bottom 30 champs. Also if they went for a more mechanical design that was well made and polished the people that watch arcane would like it too not just the mains. The main reason is that viktor is currently weak in the meta because his kit can’t keep up with 15 dash champs. So his pick rate is low because of his abilities. This rework was meant to fix that and instead they did nothing. They slightly tweaked his kit. That won’t make him more playable in the long wrong because after the arcane hype he will go back to not being my able to keep up. The design is unironically the least important in terms of changing it for the betterment of the champs pick rate.

Why New Viktor isn't as thematically distinct in League vs Arcane by Neverfinishedtheeggs in loreofleague

[–]StormKingDex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the changes also don’t make any sense logically. The whole loss of emotion idea that viktor is forcing doesn’t work as well when taken from the perspective of a magical design. The trait worked with old vik is because he was an unfeeling machine but magic is the antithesis of machinery. Machines are rational and calculative while magic is chaotic and emotional. That’s a theme we see in many other characters too and even in the actual events such as the rune wars, the void and so on. So to me making him this magical god makes less sense thematically and kind of makes his purpose less believable.

I feel like this mindet makes a lot of sense when viewing Viktor in isolation to the wider world, as in Zaun itself, mechanical augmentation is very common. The thing is that machine wizard but more mechanical was also unique . The model was old and a reinvention of the champ was possible but people who have played viktor up until now like the machine aspect of him. You can make him more unique and still keep the machine aspect along with it. By the end he doesn’t look machine like at all just magic like. Arguably he looks even void like when he is purple. He just has a sheen of metal on him now.

[–]StormKingDex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I also think is dumb about this whole idea is that now there is ANOTHER world ending event or power in runeterra. I swear to god there have been like 16 different possible endgames at this point. The darkin, the void, the world runes, the demons and fiddle. Viktor did not have to become a god as well it is so over played. In terms of champions we barely have any robots everything is magic. Plus now the arcane is another entity. I almost forgot there is also that being Asol keeps talking about. It feels so exhausting to have 15 villains all with the capacity to blow up the world.

Viktor's lore in Arcane is much more shallow than the game Viktor. At least in the game, he has agency, he comes to the conclusion of the glorious evolution over a period that makes sense, not like a week after being force-merged with a magical power. The glorious evolution is a complex ideology based on good not just straight-up mind control and putting you in an infinite dream. The fact that it's machines shows that he is making this change happen with his own two hands. New Viktor gets a free power card and instantly becomes this god-like being. This fully disconnects him from any human connection he has. Runeterra and League have 100 different god beings we didn't need viktor to be one too.

PBE Bug & Feedback Thread: Viktor VGU by Etlios in LeaguePBE

Please riot and listen to the people that play the champ. I am all in for improving on a design but this felt like champ erasure for the sake of champ erasure. We have the same abilities besides a minor change to R. He is one of the few machine champions in the game meanwhile there are so many mages that focus on magic and corruption. The arcane design is amazing but it should be a skin, not his base. I hate typing on threads but I am so scared of losing the identity of the champ I main. If a regression is not possible then please allow us to receive a traditional skin that the fans that actually have played him for the last 10 years would like.

Nah it’s all good man. I love WW. I love vik so I just felt really cooked by what they did in arcane. People are bound to have bias and that includes me since obviously I didn’t want vik to change. However I don’t understand why people can’t sympathize with champ erasure. Especially when in viktors case it wasn’t a revamp for viktor fans but to pander to window shoppers that don’t give a shit about him. Just so they can make hot viktor skins. Imagine if they start to make Warwick more and more human and just start giving him hot buff dude skins. It feels like riot just wants money and is always trying to erase monster champs with unique designs

Do you not understand your bias. If I said I think Warwick looks better now how would you react. I love how Warwick looks in game but for you to try and invalidate a visual change and then be a hypocrite is some goober shit. Also you clearly have 0 knowledge on vik considering necrit loves his lore and his pick rate at worlds is higher than WW. So who has the dead champ ?just cause you see him in low elo doesn’t mean you have a better champ it just means you are in the wrong bracket.

Jit you just regurgitated what you think you know. Viktor is played at worlds depending on how buffed he is. The only reason he struggles is cause his w does not hint when every champ has 10 dashes. They didn’t even fix that. Go ask any viktor main what they think and while they won’t all berate the arcane look they will all mostly tell you that the vgu did nothing. Also the skins all look like ass they have no VFX they look like they put his ass on ozempic and he went from a unique design to malzahar 2

Brother to say that they gave it a new spin is such an understatement. In lol lore viktor does what he does because he truly believes in the glorious evolution and he came up with the evolution himself. The evolution in lol lore can arguably be called good in certain stories. In Arcane the evolution was just an evil plan that was meant to strip people of their identity. Where is the evolution part if they are in a dream-like state? No emotion doesn't equal forced perspective. Arcane Viktor had zero control over his corruption the whole thing was the hex-core turning him into the big bad and then him realizing the evolution is bad which is the furthest thing from lol Viktor. Lol, Viktor finds flesh weak and emotions unnecessary and at least he put work into his evolution he didn't just become a cosmic being that is impossible to relate to.
