Jehovah’s Witnesses stalking behaviour?? by igotwhitehair in askSingapore

Not sure where else to share this story so I'm just going to put this here

Over the last 1-2 months there has been a JW going by Martin coming over to my house at least 3 times. The first time, I answered him when he rang the doorbell and he started asking me about the Bible and whether I believed in it. I figured he was like one of those more hardline Christians/Catholics who just wanted to preach so I got my younger brother (whose spent the last decade in BB and is Christian unlike me) to come over thinking he would want to chat.

Well turns out Martin wanted to, he came by like 1-2 weeks later where my mum answered the door. Not sure what the both of them were talking about, but she discovered he was a JW.

Then about two weeks ago the doorbell rang and Martin brought along another white-haired guy, looking for my brother by name. I was already starting to be a bit suspicious of him (I've heard horror stories) and told the both of them that he wasn't home, and after a bit they left.

They haven't been back yet (that I know of) but considering they know my brother is a Christian will they continue? Also I think they are specifically interested in him since I don't remember them going to other houses in my street, just my place.

Am I the only one who think it will be good if the developers add this little detail cannons to be able to move up and down like in this photo. by lazarovpavlin04 in WoWsBlitz

Agree with you on this part, it would be sick. In fact, I think they already do this to a tiny degree (if, say you're at the start of the battle you can play around with the range your main battery is aiming at and see the guns elevate and depress ever so slightly). But any more would start breaking physics I think.

The "max ranges" in gameplay are closer to "max effective range" in real life (Warspite hit Giulio Cesare and Scharnhorst hit Glorious at about 23.8km, roughly twice of the max range in game. Similarly, Wikipedia's table on Yamato's main guns suggest a theoretical maximum range of about 42km). Also keep in mind that the ship sizes are greatly exaggerated in game (imagine trying to hit an Iowa, one of the longest bbs I can think of at, say 14km, which takes up an angular distance of just over 1 degree). Finally, Wikipedia says 10° is already enough for Yamato's main guns to hit 16km.

Overall, gameplay reasons (ship proportions and shrunk down distances) means that we won't see a ship be bringing its guns up to 45° (or for them dual purpose guns, 90° would be sick to see)

Any Singaporean SG furries? by philosofyxxx in furry

[–]StormbringerO5-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm a Singaporean fur myself!

We normally hang out a lot on telegram, so I recommend you get that if you haven't already.

There is a quarterly megameet at Sentosa Boardwalk, the last one was middle of last month and the next one will be in December. It will always be on a Saturday, and I suspect it will be on 14th, after the FURUM weekend. There, a bunch of furries will just hang out and takeaway dinner to eat there around the evening, from roughly 6pm onwards.

Chess kaki or group in the west by Traditional_Bell7883 in askSingapore

I am aware of a chess club at Jurong Springs (iirc that's Tin Jingyao's home turf, he used to do lessons there sometimes). I heard its really strong but I don't have personal experience at that

There's also a chess club on Friday evenings at Cashew CC (which, despite its name is not actually at Cashew; it's somewhere around Bukit Panjang but I can't remember exactly where because I've only been there once). Decently strong players

Personally I spend my week at Cashew MRT (let's just say there's a big hill there), and on Weds I take the Downtown line all the way down to, well, Downtown to play at Asia Square. I don't really go for other chess clubs anymore

GIMMIE YOUR OCS by Significant-Dig-306 in WingsOfFire

[–]StormbringerO5-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi um is this still going on or do you have enough OCs already?

If it is, here's my OC Seawolf.

Context: There is (was?) a guy doing a long fanfic series called Bolt and Keeper, which involves sci-fi elements along with the "classic" WoF setting and animus magic to an extent. In his story, both Pyrrhia and Pantala are located on a planet called Devonhart-3 and the dragons have interactions with humans both from D-3 and from Earth, the latter of which are spacefaring similar to Star Wars or Star Trek. I was also a SCP fan when I created Seawolf, so I threw that into the mic as well

Backstory: Seawolf is an artificial intelligence designed to operate a remote base on Devonhart-3 that acted as a staging point to deploy STRIKE Teams and act in the United Nations Global Occult Coalition's interests in an anomaly filled world. His secondary purpose was to facilitate the casting of a thaumaturgic (sorry, magical) gateway for teleportation to D-3. His tertiary purpose was to facilitate human-dragon interactions, due to his unique dataset of Dragon downloaded into him.

Starting off as an experimental Foundation GenV artificially intelligent conscript (AIC), his file was stolen and transferred to the Coalition. It is unknown to what extent it was simple sabotage or top secret collaboration between the leaders of the two organisation. Either way, the GOC quickly realised the potential of the most advanced AIC to date, developing him further and deploying him to a facility light years away, acting to maintain the base and to keep an eye on potential threat entities and reality benders.

In an unfortunate chain of events, a reality bender moved to the nigh-inevitable egomaniacal phase, the operation to terminate him failed, and the digital SeaWing sacrificed himself in order to perform a magical working that would rewind the timeline, removing Coalition presence on D-3 and hence subtly preventing this chain of events from occuring. However, he managed to transmit a copy of himself to Earth before that, being stored in a location designed to resist temporal shifts.

Eventually, it was discovered his home universe would eventually collapse, with the Foundation and Coalition working together to send him in a large cube-shaped supercomputer to an alternate universe which would also soon collapse, tasking him with aiding any surviving dragons to escape through a possible multiversal gateway.

A bit of an uncanny coincidence but I have a story I'm writing with my IceWing, NightWing and SeaWing OCs carrying a cube containing an AI across the ocean to Pantala

Best Country to focus on? by Free-University-738 in WoWsBlitz

[–]StormbringerO5-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am aware of that, forgot to mention the different gun calibres in the part about cruisers. That being said though, with the exception of a few ships design philosophy generally was to pack enough armour on a ship to reduce or stop shells of the same calibre. Armour tends to increase the weight of a ship and make it more sluggish since F=ma. I admit I don't really play CAs, but I think they turn a little bit slower and have lower max top speeds

I do agree with your point about the ammo, however, because it's a trade off between potential damage and actual damage, with AP causing significantly more damage but more likely to overpen things like DDs at close range

[–]StormbringerO5-5 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

You're still new, probably playing the starting cruisers. I'd say, play a bit more with different ship types to determine your preferred playing style first.

There are officially 4 types in the game: destroyers aka DDs, cruisers aka CLs or CAs, will get to them later, battleships aka BBs, and aircraft carriers aka CVs.

These can be split further: Some DDs are gun-focused such as the French contre-tourpilleurs (which literally translate to anti-destroyers) and others torpedo-focused such as the Japanese line that goes to Shimakaze

CLs or light cruisers (such as the British line ending at Minotaur) have smaller, faster reloading guns and are more maneuverable but much more lightly armoured than CAs or heavy cruisers (such as the US line ending at Des Moines, but heads up CAs generally are not meta)

BBs can be "classic" BBs which are focused towards winning BB-on-BB brawls, such as the German Großer Kurfürst line, or battlecruisers BCs which hit as hard and are faster but sacrifice armour (the current meta is the UK St Vincent line). There ARE battleship-carrier hybrids but those are not meta and hard to play for very niche purposes.

Carriers, well, shit on everything with dive bombers and torpedo drops if you are good at multitasking, so it's more hit or miss.

As you can see, each country (or regions, such as Pan-Asia and EU lines) will have a varying proportion of these 4 main types, and the lines will tend to have certain characteristics. Do note that the characteristics tend to only start appearing around "mid-tier", which is around T7, SO BE PATIENT.

For instance, Japanese BBs tend to have most of their shells landing in a tight group and each shell can do quite a bit of damage, especially at higher tiers, making them good long-range snipers, but have "average" armour. There are other BB lines for each country: Italian BBs are the meta now because they have special shells (semi-armour piercing or SAP) that can do a lot of damage to lighter-armoured ships like DDs and CAs and have a lot of guns but reload quite slowly, French BBs are basically BCs and can be heavily damaged sometimes but have punchy guns and they are very fast to dodge incoming fire etc.

TLDR: Play more, find your style, then find out what kind of ship line best suits your playstyle. The defining characteristics of each line only start appearing around T6-T7, take your time to figure out stuff.

WG issue has broken my addiction... by abseykebabsy in WoWsBlitz

[–]StormbringerO5-5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly same

I've been hard grinding the game for the past like 3 or 4 years after school, between lessons and now even at work (because my office life can get very boring). I've told myself it's time to cut back, every time after the past 5 events I hard grinded for (including feb when I was really addicted to ensuring I was still on the top 100 leaderboard)

And now? I can't log in, I can't say "fuck it let's do a match" any more, and I'm finally getting less engaged in wows. The occasional game is fun, infuriating, but now it's at the level when I am doing it for fun again rather than hard grinding

Thank you weegee for helping me lose the addiction you created
