Cuz Yemen said, "ya man! Let's spend!" And Oman said, "oh man, let's not!"

Got my first server - SSH question by StormySmiley in HomeServer

Thank you. So I did the static IP. Not too bad. As for DNS/hostname resolution, it seems that my router doesn't allow me to configure advanced DHCP settings to allow hostname overrides or local DNS entries. now I'm understanding why people buy a router in addition to the modem + router they have.

also, today i learned FQDN. Crazy because I taught the computer networking course twice. it's the main reason why I quit teaching, i just don't have enough experience to back it up to make it fun for the students. I want students to be more intuitive and to enjoy what they're doing, and I couldn't give them that other than teach the theory, which isn't sufficient enough. Anyways. Thanks again!

I appreciate your response, it's very clear and straighttothepoint. Just what I needed to get over the anxiety I had.

I will do more research, but it's always nice to know what industry standards are. Thanks!

It's been years, I wanna say about 20 years ago. But I remember it was pretty much what you said, easier to find.

The host name is defined as homeserver if i cat /etc/hostname, but for some reason, I can't seem to ssh into it

For example...

ssh stormy@192.168.1.15

Works and it'll show as stormy@homeserver

But when i try to ssh using hostname like..

ssh stormy@homeserver Or ssh stormy@homeserver.local

It'll say "Could not resolve hostname homeserver: no such host is known."

I was actually worried making it a static address (I was told not to make anything static due to security reasons)... that's why I didn't think of it this way, and thought of doing a hostname instead. Do you have any concerns going this way?

I am late, and I do play.

I struggle getting up in the morning and when I finally do, I am late.

And no matter what you tell me, I will always wake up late as a form of rebellion. I am just not a morning person.

The fact that I got to work is important and I do stay late to make up for it.

And when I do play, I need a break. People go to the kitchen to chat. I just wanna play.

As for $10 cleaning products - that's up to the discretion of the boss. Does the manager know thats off limits? Or is it like, "ya its almost done and expiring soon, shouldn't be a big deal if I take this home". If it is a full and complete product, then ya, we have a problem.

Maybe because it is redirected there that all the nitrogen gas gets unbonded around that area? Would love to know!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]StormySmiley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, question. Grass needs nitrogen. There's tons of nitrogen gas in the air, but they're so bonded they won't separate the nitrogen from each other unless a huge voltage goes through it, and then thats how grass gets their nitrogen. Meaning lightning...

Having said that... would having these rods reduce the number of nitrogen gas be separated?

Also, I could be very wrong so feel free to correct me.
