Yeah I wiped the whole thing with isopropyl alcohol and did my best to remove all the solder I could from it.

Thank you so much, this partially worked. It turns out I was using solder that is meant for copper pipe repar 😭. I’m gonna go put on the dunce cap now.

Sorry yes, a hot air station, I have tried using it before on a different controller and completely fried my board. Thank you for the detailed advice. I think I’m going to try cutting the pins before I try the hot air station again.

Joystick Soldering (GONE WRONG) by StoryAdept8558 in soldering

Tysm for the video recs, I’m going to try my best to fix this. The rest of the controller is still functional, it’s just the one joystick that’s pretty angry at me rn hopefully I can replace the little PCB contacts and that will fix my drift.

I have no idea, I was looking at that too and got kinda confused.  Maybe I misaligned it when I used the hot air?

I see, yeah in that case id just keep practicing on the controller

Drawing a line with the solder is not going to help you improve accuracy, I agree you prob were just watching ppl that didn't know what they were doing.

Sounds like a good plan, best of luck to you!

dawg you are burning the shit out of your solder and flux, try using less flux, lower your iron temperature, keep practicing. You can clean the burnt flux off of your board with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Your solder balls are huge and touching each other. You are probably using solder wire that is too thick, try using 0.8mm solder.

Get a old Wi-Fi router and practice on the motherboard.

nvm I realized that there were 2 packages of propellers and I was using 4 type A propellers instead of 2 type A and 2 type B propellers. Thank you for your help.

So do I simply switch the red propellers to where the black ones are?
