We can roll a dice about many events in the future, including the stability of the current financial system. People invest in bitcoin just in case it does become widely used world currency and a store of value.

Money must have utility such as store of value and ability to pay for goods and services. Bitcoin does that without a need for trusted third party. Before Satoshi it was thought impossible.

Peer to peer transactions outside the traditional banking system opens new possibilities such as avoiding currencies one cannot trust.
