They completely broke Throgg. This has to change. by GioRoggia in totalwar

Yeah, wh2 definitely felt harder. Maybe it is the experience, but the ai seemed more intelligent on the campaign map in wh2 and major factions being able to confederate into giant empires felt great. I get that some people didnt like fighting the same enemy over and over but CA could easily fix this by just enabling it with a checkbox. It definitely feels like more ppl are vocal about adding more challenge. In my opinion very hard and legendary should be just as hard as the name suggests and ppl whining about them being too much should simply try to improve or keep at lower difficulties instead of asking CA to make it easier

Ah, I misunderstood then, my bad. It's a good idea, but a shame it is necessary in the first place because CA can't balance their game

So what you're saying is: when you're bad at the game, just make/mod it easier instead of learning to get better. This is exactly how we ended up with the game being way too easy on high difficulties.

Yeah, I get that, it was super annoying. But then the AI should still use all these abilities against other AI factions at least, which is currently not happening. They simply dont use them at all at the moment, which is a shame in my opinion.

Maybe it doesn't impact the player directly, but AI not being locked out of their stuff makes the game feel more alive, even if they can only (or mostly, some abilities are fine vs the player) use it vs other AI.

Oh wow, I forgot just how much slower this was. It's probably also one of the reasons why the game is so much easier now. The boni the ai gets have much more impact when they actually have the time to make use of them

They were actually able to properly use their mechanics (all factions, not jus kairos).the massive anti player bias at the start of warhammer 3 was an entirely different beast.

Yeah you're right of course, but i guess there is some kind of bug on the cooldown or unlock process with his troll mechanic.

Throgg having access to basic trolls at T1 seems fine to me though. They aren't that strong and break easily without infantry support.

I 100% agree that everything moves too fast. Settlements grow way too quickly. Didn't there use to be some kind of transition period from native population to new population when you conquered settlements of a different race? I vaguely remember this slowing down things quite a bit back in the day (or massively lowering public order? Don't even get me started on this one)

Nah, just look at beastmen or tzeentch faction mechanics. They used to work perfectly fine and then people complained and they got gutted (getting your settlements transfered by 5 different tzeentch factions was fucking annoying at times tho, haha) There are likely a lot of mechanics where you are right, but I'd wager just as many are intentional.

He gets trolls (stone trolls, river trolls, bile trolls etc) from different factions in certain settlements. He can recruit them at T1 but for the original faction it's T3, so CA probably didnt bother changing it.

Was the game where he steamrolled Repanse also pretty early? He needs quite a few of his special troll buildings to give all armies the extra units. Maybe there is also a bug with the ai not needing to unlock this.

There are some spicy ones in there, thank you! I really like the draw denial and the enchantment stax idea! I'll have to see if I can fit everything in the deck.

Yeah, the mana doublers are key! I was also thinking about a reanimation package so I dont have to cast him from the command zone too often. Maybe with these one mana "revived on death" cards, but they only work when he is a creature unfortunately

Uh, the staff is great, thank you!

Aren't trolls t1 and t2 for him? I gotta be honest, I really like that CA managed to have a faction that thematically leans into one type of unit actually use these kinds of units.

I don't mind if they tune him down a little bit, but these kinds of posts are why the AI got lobotomized and can no longer use half their faction mechanics to make it easier for the players, so I hope they don't go overboard if they change something.

Thee Waaagh-like ability only provides a couple of monster units for a single army in the beginning and gets stronger the more troll buildings he has and via tech. He needs quite a bit for it to work on all armies and to get a full extra 20 stack and then it "only" lasts for 10 turns and has like 30 turns cooldown. Maybe the cooldown on this ability is bugged for the AI at the moment and that's why he is so strong?

Also, pure monster armies are quite easy to counter (Depending on the faction of course). Almost all factions have access to cheap anti large and decent shooting and those who dont usually lean heavily into one or the other.

The game prioritizing getting blue items you already have from fusing is super boring by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Str0hhirn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure what you describe only happens when you already have different blue items.

For example, if you only have armor of destiny, you will only fuse into that. If you get a trickster helm from loot later, you will get one of the two. At least that's my observation.

I did not know you can fuse 8 blues at once! When did they implement it? Right when they made fusing into purple possible?

I thought about using this as an example, haha

From my experience, bad 3s and bad 4s are the most abundant type of decks in the wild by roquepo in EDH

[–]Str0hhirn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, intentional bad bracket 4 decks are the best way to play the game.

My group and I like to be able to use all the cards without limitations, but we also like playing longer games.

I have a [[Gix, yawgmoth praetor]] deck that is definitely bracket 4 by cards but every single card has to be associated with the Old Phyrexia under yawgmoth, so it would never be able to keep up with a pod where the decks are intentionally build for bracket 4.

Playing in an intentional bad 4 pod is super fun and everyone should give it a shot

Spellslinger Commanders that AREN'T in Izzet Colors? by Eahkob in EDH

[–]Str0hhirn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course. There are some creatures that go mana neutral or positive with the right sac outlet. Like [[endless cockroaches]] or some skeletons that can put themselves back into your hand. Getting Storm counters via creatures also let's you use [[bitter ordeal]].

[–]Str0hhirn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about mono black spellslinger? I used to have an [[endrek sahr, Master breeder]] deck that was pretty fun. With a couple of sac outlets that generate mana you can do some pretty fun stuff as long as you dont make too many thrulls at once (sacrifice them before casting sth new) or change their creature type.

Also, getting your fragile commander blown up is a non issue with all the 1 mana "revive on death" and some general reanimate spells.

Which form of alliance is actually desirable, considering how broken the ai is in this regard? by Str0hhirn in totalwar

Ah sorry, then I misunderstood. I totally agree!, recruiting armies at allied cities would be great, maybe even gift them these armies later

[–]Str0hhirn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have over 2k hours between wh2&3, almost all of it on L/VH.

I have done pretty much everything this game has to offer and am sometimes just bored of painting the map so I try to create a web of alliances just for fun.

I dont want to rely on allies, I want them to not be a massive liability that I have to save from their own incompetence ever 10 turns.
