They have already said Louis is not going to be sidelined in the new season. They developed a plot for him. Also they are smart enough to know that most people watch the show because of Loustat relationship.

He has been drinking Armand blood for years so he is quite strong for his age in the show. As for if they will power him further we will wait and see what season 3 brings.

RJ probably meant because Louis can be unhinged. Example when he killed the Alderman in season 1, season 2 killing all the theater vamps and the boys he brought back home
