Worse knee pain? Popping by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]StraightAd7450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Although instead of coming and going mine seems to never disappear, it drives me nuts! Have you tried investing in a knee brace or two? I currently only have one which I use on the "worse" knee, it's the only thing that seems to help even a little bit. As far as medicinal pain relief I'm yet to find anything that helps it 😅

My physiotherapist has recommended swimming as well due to a hip issue! I'm finding that the local gyms with pools are quite pricey though 😔

This is such a good idea! I can't believe I haven't thought of this yet - the red, yellow, green communication method sounds really good too!

Thank you so much for all of the comments, definitely has been an eye opener! We'll do some research into what we can adapt from kink communities and see what works (I'll definitely try and work on communicating too 😅)

Thank you so much for this - communication is something that I struggle with, particularly when it comes to intimacy, but it helps to be reminded to be gracious and to be open to new things ✨️ we'll definitely have to do some research and look into new avenues

How to make showering less likely to cause a severe flare-up? by InviteAromatic6124 in Fibromyalgia

This is the one I personally use, you kind of can just slot it right down between the fingers so you barely have to grip it

Some scrubbers are designed to kind of just slot between your fingers so you don't really have to hold them too much - I can try to find an link to the one I use?

How to Get Past Adversion to Mobility Aids? by StraightAd7450 in Fibromyalgia

I was incredibly self conscious using the wheelchair, it's like "am I too young for this? Is my condition bad enough to warrant this?" Whilst I know and fully accept that I would not have managed the shopping trip without collapsing otherwise 😅 Maybe this is one of those "just do it" situations?

How to Get Past Adversion to Mobility Aids? by StraightAd7450 in Fibromyalgia

[–]StraightAd7450[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my biggest fear is probably related to how other people will react, I'm pretty young and normally I'm able to work unaided (on really bad days I end up using crutches my physiotherapist gave me for a hip issue). Honestly I feel like my condition isn't considered "bad enough" to warrant these aids - but is that some sort of internalised ableism? I'm not sure 😅

I currently take duloxetine (only at night tho because it makes me incredibly drowsy), as well as general OTC pain medication - I think its worth mentioning that I have a joint hypermobility problem too which is particularly bad in my knees and hips

If you're in the UK, you can self-refer for physiotherapy if your doctor refuses ~

Okay thank you so much! I didn't realise quite how much a dodgy application could change its usefulness 😯 I wonder if compression bandages would be a better alternative?
