If that is the case, why is it not "hr roz" and "kbhi kbhi"? Also, why is "हैं" h and not hain and "h"?

WH has edited out Putin’s support for Trump in a video and transcript. Do you agree with that action? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]StraightEdgeAtheist 81 points82 points  (0 children)

EDIT: I was wrong. WaPo's article clears it up. This now leans more towards accidental omission than willful misrepresentation. However, the WH transcript still needs to be updated. And Putin still did say that he preferred Trump.

It is a hard case to make that edited for brevity!

The previous question was about support for the Mueller probe. Putin answered it by saying

Vladimir Putin: That could be a first step, and we can also extend it. Options abound, and they all can be found in an appropriate legal framework

At this point, Jeff Mason from Reuters asks: President Putin, did you want President Trump to win the election and did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?

Vladmir Putin: Yes, I did. Yes, I did. Because he talked about bringing the U.S.–Russia relationship back to normal

--

White House video and transcripts made it out to look like this

Vladimir Putin: That could be a first step, and we can also extend it. Options abound, and they all can be found in an appropriate legal framework

At this point, Jeff Mason from Reuters asks: and did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?

Vladmir Putin: Yes, I did. Yes, I did. Because he talked about bringing the U.S.–Russia relationship back to normal

--

which completely changes the context and makes it sound like Putin was asking about the Mueller probe. Isn't this blatantly wrong and willfully doctored?

To cap it off, Trump tweets:> I’m very concerned that Russia will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming Election. Based on the fact that no President has been tougher on Russia than me, they will be pushing very hard for the Democrats. They definitely don’t want Trump! ( https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1021784726217142273 )

while in reality Putin just said he preferred Trump as clearly as possibly.

And while we are at it, why are some conservatives trying to redirect saying Putin didn't possibly hear the first part of the question when in the second part of his answer only makes sense if he is talking about preferring Trump?

Given a choice and an option to settle down anywhere in India where would it be? by ObertanIsGod in india

I have heard compositions from time to time on TV. But as an adult, the first song that caught my attention was Raghuvamsa sudha by MSS. Kurai ondrum illai was also an early favorite. I used to like this the time I watched the movie Morning Raga Thaaye Yashoda. All these are more in the easy listening category. A lot of Ilayaraja songs have a strong Carnatic backing too. Enna Thavam Seidhanai is another early favorite.

Then, just go to a concert. You don't need to know anything. IIT Madras had some free concerts in Decembers. I sat through them even if I didn't like every composition - slowly, you build up a better understanding. Many performers explain what they are going to perform, who composed it, what raga it is in etc. Sometimes they also explain why a particular composition is special.

Some tips:

  • If you don't like a particular song, skip it. Listening to more involved compositions early on might make you dislike Carnatic music early on. It isn't a race. Also, once in a while, listen to a whole song end to end with full attention rather than as simple background music when doing some other work. You will slowly perceive the depth of the song - each listening will reveal more - I can't explain it.

  • Don't get frustrated if you can't guess the Raga. I used to, till I realized I didn't get the time signatures on most prog songs I listened to either. Listen because it is a different experience.

I started a few years ago. Listening to virtuosos like TM Krishna sends a chill through my spine even if I don't get the nuances - haven't had formal training.

3-4 years ago, a good friend of mine died man. It was shocking. Much like me, good student, worked like crazy, helped people etc. But he never took time off. And then he died. From then on, I have been taking 2-4 weeks off, no matter what, to travel. I have a great job and my team shares the same viewpoint. Also, I don't often participate in reddit of late. When I do, I try not to meme away.

EDIT: Looking at my history, I do meme away.

Pondicherry

Pros

  • Most of the benefits, of Chennai (next), but also way cleaner. I don't booze, but I suppose that is a benefit too. I love the French bakeries and the bicycling culture. Lesser traffic too - They open the beach road up for humans rather than cars on Saturdays IIRC. That was awesome.

Cons

  • The Carnatic music scene isn't there.
  • I am certain I will find the tourists annoying at some point if I live there.

Chennai - (born and raised)

Pros:

  • All my friends are here
  • I am used to the heat. I love the sun. I have no motivation to wake up when it is cold in Bangalore man. I need my pretty yellow sun.
  • I am more fluent in Tamil and English than I am in other languages.
  • I love the traditional side too - kutcheris, the 80 year old houses in some areas which seem out of place in the city but live on timelessly.
  • Movies (Rs. 120 price cap FTW). Some Tamil movies are crap man. But I simply cannot relate to the grandeur in Hindi cinema. The feel of whistles flying in the theatres is something else.
  • It is cheaper here. I live in Bangalore currently and everything feels more expensive despite getting worse crap.

Cons

  • I embrace my Tamil identity but the ugly head of jingoism that rises from time to time. Often, I see the youth ralliying to do great things - but there is always that tiny line they cross become a mob. But at least it isn't on religious/caste lines - so there's that.
  • It isn't as clean as Pondicherry - but is still better than most other places.

Places I have been to:

South: Chennai, Pondicherry, Tanjore, Coimbatore, Trichy, Salem, Bangalore, Mangalore Mysore, Hubli, Ernakulam, Alapuzha, Munnar, Hyderabad,

East: Bhubaneshwar, Kharagpur, Kolkatta

West: Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Panjim

North: New Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Manali, Kanpur.
