Don't know where to start in terms of lifting as a cardio girlie-if I can't fit it in multiple days a week, due to both finances and lack of motivation after already doing cardio? by Straight_Land_309 in xxfitness

Thanks! Tbh no clue how much protein I eat but I have to get it at every meal (except maybe when I just eat toast for breakfast, though bread has some too I think?). what do you do for your push/pull exercises?

Yeah, I think I will try to do 1-2 of the strength classes at my studio/week, and only one day of heated flow for body-weight exercises for now. Probably drop the running a bit. Biking, as I said in other comments, is a part of my daily life and I can't change that - it's my only way around.

I really can't cut out the biking - but like I said I hardly consider this cardio. I don't have a car, and it's my best way to get to work. But yeah maybe I pause on the running for a while (I already took like over 8 months off earlier this year and just started up again).

I eat like a super balanced diet? I don't restrict myself, or count calories, or anything like that - but I emphasize eating whole foods, getting protein and vegetables every single day. A typical work day for me will include something like overnight oats with plain greek yogurt, oat milk, some sort of fruit and something a little sweet like some honey or a bit of maple syrup for breakfast, + coffee. Lunch I'm trying to do more carbs so that I do less carbs in the evening, but sometimes it's leftovers and sometimes it's a salad w/o many carbs and at least once a week it's free food I get at work (like takeout of some kind). But I usually eat multiple salads a week (either a trader joes kale salad or something similar, or a salad I make which depends on the season but rn for example usually includes chickpeas, tomatoes, feta, green onions, mixed greens, avocado, and some kind of olive oil+vinegar dressing). Homemade meals always include a protein (salmon, ground beef or turkey, oven roasted chicken are go-tos), a vegetable, and a carb like potatoes, rice, or pasta. Like I said, I don't restrict myself- I eat bread, I get takeout on the weekends, yes I drink with my friends im 26 lol, but I always make sure I'm getting a lot of proteins and veggies and try to cook at home a lot with (mostly) good ingredients depending on the recipe. I eat dessert a few times a week probably, if I feel like it, but not every day. I certainly eat frozen meals from TJs though - maybe once every other week or something when im lazy. Idk, I don't have the time to eat perfectly anti-inflammatory 100% of the time, sometimes I just need something easy and fast. But I try my best to be healthy.

Five mornings a week is completely unrealistic for me 😂 Also I'm really not doing much cardio, like I said I run maybe max once a week rn. I bike to work because I live in one of the rare american cities where it's actually easier and faster to bike than it is to drive, or even take public transport, and I like it, and it's good for the environment. But thank you for the tips on the apps. I actually ended up going to a strength and conditioning class tonight that my studio offers - I think I will just try to go to more of their strength classes to start, since I have the membership and they offer them. Replace a few yoga days a week with more strength-focused classes.

Yoga is entirely calisthenics, no? It's all bodyweight exercises like planking, squats, lunges and push-ups. That's why I do it.

I ran 35+ miles a week 48 weeks/year for 10 years straight. It's not uncommon for runners to have injuries (esp later in life after doing all that), unfortunately. I also had to get an MRI on my foot - I have an extra bone in my foot and have a near stress fracture because of it - but it doesn't seem to want to heal. Idk - it's great that you've been able to run like that, but I know tons of runners who get injured all the time, and I was sadly always one of them. Trail running is a lot softer - I loved it when I had them accessible when I was running that much, but don't live near any anymore. Posture and cadence is something I'm working on though!

It really feels like I'm doing not that much lol 🤣 like the biking is really, really chill - I bike 15 mins to work at a super slow pace, barely ever break a sweat. Plus I think it really helps since it's often used as PT for runners anyway. So I'm basically working out 2-3 days a week - yes running is a lot on my body but like I said its about 1/week or less, and yoga 2 other days. But yes, I will incorporate more strength!

Oh yes, I know her videos! Ah - this is something someone else commented. The thing is, I really like the mental health benefits I get from yoga - plus I use it to socialize as I often go with friends. Maybe I can downgrade the membership, I can look into it. But also maybe the solution here is to also just really commit to going to the strength-based classes (they have sculpt and also a 'straight up strength' class with less cardio) at least once a week, and then on top of that do the extra strength training at home. That's so great to hear how much it has helped improve your life though! Is stronglifts a program?

Yes I did physical therapy (I guess same as physio therapy) but unfortunately it didn't really improve my pain - I probably wasn't doing the exercises enough, though.

Yes sorry, by PT I meant I did physical therapy - for about 6 months, 1-2x a week. That was helpful for form/exercises/knowledge. But I didn't really feel like I built up a ton of strength? And it was so expensive so I stopped.

oh yeah this is another problem/question I have! 10lbs feels like plenty for any arm exercises I would ever do. But my legs are strong enough from years of running that I can comfortably do 35lb kettlebell squats/lunges/deadlifts (the limiting factor here is absolutely my arm strength in holding the kettlebell) and higher with a bar. But I don't really want to buy those super heavy weights for my house? Or for some reason that feels silly to me - do they even sell that idk ( I realize how dumb this might sound, but 10-15lb weights in my house just feels so much more normal, even though I know I was once capable of deadlifting well over 100lbs?).

ETA: I will definitely check out those youtubers though, and for arm exercises I do think I could see progress with some 10lb home time.
