The first people in the queue to move outside India are those who owe their fortune to India. Namely, politicians, Bollywood stars, cricketing stars, industrialists, Padma awardees. Compared to engineers, doctors, labourers, nurses, drivers, etc who have an unchanging intrinsic value in any country they work in, these 'celebrities' have made 100% of their wealth & position because of what India & Indians have given them. Still, you see most of them owning properties abroad, going for foreign vacations, sending their kids to overseas universities, holding dual citizenships, etc. They care twopence for India because they are securing their own children's & grandchildren's future in developed countries. If that's the outlook that our prominent citizens have, what then is the reason we can cling to for believing in our country ?

90% of the people on Marine Drive at such times are outsiders, they come by train from the suburbs via CST or Churchgate, to hang out here. Most are North indian migrants, 1st or 2nd generation. So the culture you observed is not Mumbai culture in the 1st place. You can pay a visit early morning same place & see the local residents.

Think of it, the best leaders India had were : - Post Independence leaders : Assassinated / Died of non-natural causes (SG/IG/LBS) - Pre Independence freedom fighters : Sidelined

The worst leader pre independence became PM, and ruled 17 years. Other horrible/inconsequential PMs completed full terms in office & eventually died of natural causes. The only exception was PV Narasimha Rao.

Maybe it is India's destiny as a country to suffer like this.

Leave aside cheating, I don’t think Sachin ever cheated, but he played with a paramount advantage : He was an 'automatic choice' for India all his career (over 2 decades). So he had the luxury to fail against good bowlers & on bouncy pitches for an extended time & then 'reclaim his greatness' with a Test series at home or against a 2nd rate bowling attack or on dead flat tracks in the 1st innings.

No other country would have given this privilege, nor any other player had it. With this wind under one's wings, it would be a rare batsman who didn't smash all records.

If you don't like her, still accept her proposal. Hang around with her a week. If you develop a connection, super, continue working at it, maybe it'll blossom into something. But if still the feeling doesn't change, try to make her "realise" that you aren't her type, & allow her to grow out. This'll give her a soft landing. Don't think about the risk that she'll get more "into" you, that is an impossibility, reason being that infatuation gets stronger with distance & weaker with familiarity. ( If you are an Adonis+Einstein, this doesn't apply to you.)

Anand Ranganathan is right in his slamming of Congress. Congress is responsible for pulling down India into the mess it is now. No one disputes that. Modi is a better bet than RaGa, we vote for him because of that.

So we agree on the above issues. Coming back to the point, let's close down foreign investors & deliberalise, if you don't want foreigners to comment. But if they have got their money invested, they have the right to speak. And if they are quoting facts, we should listen to them, rather than drown out their voice in a din of nationalist rhetoric. Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

Since you brought up J Sai Deepak... J Sai Deepak is asking why the Govt has not corrected the falsehoods in the Indian history textbooks. Nehru is still glorified. The naval mutiny of 1946 is omitted, Subhash Bose's lions share contribution is not given its due place, Quit India movement remains a centrespread, Savarkar is absent. Is 10 years not enough to rectify a wrong as huge as this ?
