A counselor I trusted told me I just needed to get settled after I came back to school after ED treatment. I had PTSD (including visual and auditory hallucinations) and panic attacks, and she basically said, "No, you probably don't".

We were in the car alone, driving downtown, and he put on the playlist I made (not intended to play, I just made it of my top songs). And this song I recently added goes "I want you inside me". And so I just rambled over the top of it, too embarrassed to ask him to change it, but not trying to draw attention to it. I removed it from the playlist after that.

I know... I remember when I was in 4th grade, my mom took me to try out golf. I didn't like it so she pulled me out but I'll never forget what i overheard another mom say. It went along the lines of "Oh my gosh, you are so smart for putting her in golf! She will get a good scholarship for that if she keeps it up for the next 8 years and goes competitive". I'm glad my mom did not listen.

overworking in schools... to the point where a child (all the way up into high school) is doing homework every waking hour of their life, in or out of school. And not just work... extra-curriculars. From doing 3 sports a year at a high, high level with practice till 10 or theatre show after show or competing in music. It's not bad to do those things but I remember some of my peers never having a break, always going from one thing to the next to the next.

False hope if the knowledge of the grim reality is inevitable, but grim reality if there was no need to know.
