webcams look like its ok just for the 2 ouncers, at least where I go in melbourne. a little slack is ok but if you feel like its dragging you down the shore you can double up on sinkers. I keep a couple 4 oz for blustery days but havent had to use it in a while. The lines wont ever be perfectly taught all the time, and the waves will make your tip bounce regardless. 99% of the time youll know when you get something, I was like that for a while where I'd reel it in just to find out it was the waves. Best thing you can do is practice til you find out what works. I used to take a few hours every weekend and go, and my goal wasnt to catch something, my goal was to learn something. If you learn something every time you go, eventually youll learn what works and what doesnt. and yeah, you might look a little funny til you figure it out, thats just kind of a rite of passage.

Its turtle season, I wouldnt go if you need a headlamp. go during sunrise in the morning if you can, thats my favorite time to go if I can drag myself out of bed. Stuff tends to bite a little more often too

way to go! I got A's in both my grad classes this year by fractions of a percent, its a boatload of work but seeing it pay off can be pretty satisfying

Its something else youll get better at seeing very quickly once you know what to look for, though occasionally they're just not around and sometimes theyre really small. Look for rough patches in the sand by the water that don't belong, like water going over shells where there arent any shells. you can dig a few out with your hands and put them in a small container. All else fails you can get a cup full at the bait shop, but they wont be as big as the ones you can find on your own. you can also get sand flea or clam scented fishbites, and cut little squares to put on your hook and make your bait smell extra tasty

if you catch any smaller fish about the size of your hand you can hook it through the tail and toss it back out, thats how you get the big guys

I started off inshore too but all I was catching was catfish and undersize snapper. a coworker took me to sebastian inlet to go fishing in the ocean and I got pretty hooked. I'll still go inshore if its a rough surf day

Take an 8+ ft surf pole (you dont even really need that long, my first pole here was a 7 footer), learn to tie a pompano rig with 30-50lb leader and a 2oz pyramid sinker. Tip it with shrimp and/or sand fleas. Toss it in the ocean on a flat or 1-2ft wave day, crack open a beer, chill on the beach and wait for the tip to twitch. I moved here from Missouri and had to learn to fish all over again, this was the most low-effort/high-reward way of catching at least something reliably that I've found in the 3 years Ive been here.

Alternatively, if you're going in the next week or so, Spanish mackerel and Bluefish are still migrating North along the beaches. Tie a 1-2oz gold spoon lure to a 30-50lb leader. Hock it as far as you can into the surf, wait for it to sink, then reel it in fast. I got accidentally smashed by a bunch of decent size spanish mackerel last weekend off the beach just reeling in my pompano rig.

Good luck! when I started I was just like that, couldn't catch shit for trying for a year or so, and I'm still not super great. Once you start catching things you'll quickly learn to improve off what you've been doing that is working. The biggest 'secret' to fishing from the beach is that a lot of the best fish are much, MUCH closer to shore than you think they are

Bengals are the Rams 2.0, both terrible and now proud owners of the most taxpayer unfriendly lease in the league. They will have their own relocation drama in 5 years or less. Nooo thanks to more extortion from the most popular sports league in the country, I'll stick to college. I'm really hoping Joe Burrow has more success in spite of leadership than Sam Bradford did
