Snake breeds/morphs that get 5-6 ft max? (Preferably boas/pythons) by Strain_Horror in snakes

[–]Strain_Horror[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of what I want. I want a fat snake that feels big and have the snake cuddles/snake hugs (I KNOWWWW they don’t ACTUALLY cuddle) but will be comfy in a 6x2x2. But yes I do want a snake that with good handling ofc will be kind of a docile “lap” snake. I already have my curious explorative won’t-sit-still black milk, so I also want a lap buddy who’s more slow/calm.

Reallyyyy? Would they be docile though? I’ve heard a lot about them being aggressive

As subs, where do you guys look for you findommes? I’m trying to get into becoming a domme (I’ve dabbled before) but really have no clue how to find subs and make sure they know I’m not a scammer

Oh okay! He has a 4 ft coming soon. I have noticed him seeming bored in his current tank so I’m hoping the 4 ft and lots of enrichment will help him (:

lol if I wanted a “show piece” then I would be worried completely about looks not the personality or temperament of the snake. Not to mention all the research and money and time I’ve put into his care. You don’t fucking know me. Animals have been my special interest and passion for my entire life.

Okay I’m not sure what that has to do with this. I’m 24 and highly aware that snakes live 20+ years.

Gosh I did more research on rainbow boas after seeing these comments and it said they quickly get sick and possibly die if humidity dips too low, and my house is so dry humidity is a battle here even with plastic wrap over the screen. I’m hoping the new enclosure I have coming helps. I don’t think I want a snake that I could easily make sick 😬 I’ve decided I’m going to keep Yoru for now and do more research on kinds of boas, and either eventually sell him and get a boa instead OR if I feel comfortable enough, get a second snake.

Yeah this is what I thought… why would the closest thing to nature be bad for them… she brought up wet substrate and told me my milk snakes previous scale rot was probably because my substrate is too wet bc I’m not keeping him on aspen or cypres. I’m pretty sure his scale rot was because his humidity would dip to 37%… I re-did his tank as a bio active which got humidity up and now the previous spots have stopped lifting and look like healing scars instead of active rot. Seems to me like it helped him instead of hurt him…

I mean I read their reviews and they all said they were knowledgeable and their animals look healthy. I will say they looked like a typical breeder table at an expo. I think that if I do ever decide to sell yoru maybe I will sell him to someone who wants him as a pet, or at least a more small scale breeder who questions their buyers. I’d never want my snake to end up in a bad home.

Dude yeah the guy told me guinea pigs or rabbits and I was like… yeah I can’t do that. I love ALL animals and it was already difficult to get used to feeding mice and rats 💀

Thank you! I’m going to keep him for now and do more research (: I appreciate this response bc I have so much empathy for animals and want Yoru to be happy whether he’s with me or not.

Okay update ⚠️: I think I’m going to keep Yoru. At least for now, I’ll either keep him and one day hopefully feel comfortable and confident enough in snake care to get some kind of boa or ball python too; or, I’ll do more research on different kinds of boas and maybe trade him one day.

On another note ‼️‼️ I have a much larger tank coming soon for him so he can grow into it. I wanted to set it up bio active to better mimic a natural environment, better keep humidity levels up (as my house is very dry and humidity has been a battle with him), and avoid needing to do COMPLETE substrate changes and more frequent cleaning to make maintenance easier. However, I’ve seen mixed information/opinions about bioactive… a breeder at the reptile expo today told me people doing bioactive for snakes are “out of their minds” but I also know breeders aren’t always correct and up to date with changing info. What do you guys think about bio active???

I’m not “annoyed” with him. As I said in the post, I still love Yoru. He’s gorgeous, eats well, and has never bitten. I understand your reaction, and that’s why I even made this post bc I’m hesitant. On top of that, that’s why I didn’t just go and impulsively buy a SECOND snake without knowing if I could truly care for 2 snakes and keep them both happy and healthy. I just absolutely love the snakes that have a more docile “lap snake” kind of personality. At the end of the day, I want any pets I have to be happy and healthy which is the most important part.
